‘Walker’ 1×04: “Don’t Fence Me In” recap

Micki takes the lead.

Walker 1×04, Season 1, Episode 4, “Don’t Fence Me In” aired on The CW February 11 2021

The case in Walker 1×04 isn’t as cut and dry as we first thought, and thanks to Micki’s hard work, the right man is brought to justice! We are loving that this show isn’t just case after case, it’s really showcasing Micki’s character and how her heritage plays a role in her work as a Ranger, as well as the family drama in the Walker house. Here’s what went down!

Case time. Micki and Cordell get called to a case and they take down a gang member, or former gang member that is. Micki is not certain that it was just a clear cut “bad guy in a gang” though. The man they caught was Enzo, and the party line is that he killed his boss, Mr. Harlan – but the more Micki digs, she realizes that there is much more to this story.

Resolution. After flexing her impressive art skills, Micki makes a huge connection in the case and realizes that Enzo was Mr. Harlan’s son. And to complex things more, Mr. Harlan was leaving his estate to Enzo! So if it wasn’t Enzo, who was it? Well, after some thorough investigation, Micki and Cordell uncover that it was actually the Sherriff who killed Mr. Harlan. He was having an affair with Mrs. Harlan! And Cordell believing Micki’s hunch about it all brought them closer together. We are really loving the bond these two are forming.

Parental marriage drama. In the previous episode we saw that there is definitely some drama between Abeline and Bonham and when Cordell finds some old letters in the cellar, we are sure there is a MUCH bigger story here. Liam fills Cordell in on their parent’s “rough batch” but he doesn’t really have any info for Cordell (or us). And it’s super clear that Abeline has no plans to discuss this matter with her son, and just wants to make her jam. Let the woman make her jam!

Stella. Stella has started her community service and had a sweet little moment with the cutie face stable worker boy. She goes back there and has another cute moment with the cute stable boy because this is The CW and we are here for it. Two scenes in and we officially ship it. When Stella wasn’t getting super chummy with Trevor, she was working through some serious guilt about her part in her friend’s arrest that lead to her friend’s parents possibly facing deportation. Hopefully, Liam can help them!

August. The Walkers are moving and that means unpacking (ugh). August starts digging in one of Cordell’s old boxes and grabs a phone and an old camera before Cordell can swipe it away. The box he is so quick to tuck away clearly hold some painful memories. August gets the film developed and freaks when he finds a pic of a woman with his dad. Look – we KNOW that Cordell didn’t have an affair. We just know it!

Blast from the past. So who’s the lady? It’s a woman from his undercover days, but what bothers August is how happy his dad looks in the pic. The biggest thing to note here is not the picture or August’s mini freak out – it’s the phone and the text that August sent. Cordell’s undercover days were behind him, but with that one text, August has thrust Cordell back into his old life. Yikes.

Trey and Micki. Okay, these two are just beyond cute and WE LOVE THEM. Trey is so encouraging and (in his own way) he helps Micki get to the right conclusion in her case. He also frames the super heroine that Micki drew as a kid when she needed a hero because now she is a hero. We love them and Trey’s abs and them, we love them, and the abs.

Case (not) closed. No matter what is happening in the lives of the Walker fam, there is always a mention of Emily. In this episode Liam decides to pull the case files that he has access to and realizes that Cordell’s boss had just pulled some video evidence recently. Cordell has been convinced since day one that something isn’t right about Emily’s case, but now it seems like everyone else is starting to agree.
