‘Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist’ 2×05: Just say no to caring (and drugs)

Let's take a trip, shall we?

Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist 2×05, Season 2, Episode 5, “Zoey’s Extraordinary Trip” aired on NBC Feb. 2, 2021

Is it easier to just not care? Yes and no. It would have made life easier if Simon didn’t care about the horrible position Danny’s request put him in, or if Max didn’t care what his dad thought, and if Zoey didn’t care so much about everything – but caring is who they are. Here’s what went down in Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist 2×05!

Danny is back! After some legal maneuvering, Danny is off of house arrest and ready to be all up in SPRQ Point’s face. It’s all good fun, until he asks Simon to be the face of the damage control for SPRQ Point’s racist malfunction.

DRUGS?! Zoey has decided that she wants to live a more rebellious life, but the problem is – she’s still Zoey. She takes a personal day and heads over to Aiden’s garage and they down a pill (from a proper, reputable drug dealer, of course). Within seconds of taking the pill, Danny calls her! Bright side – he’s so crazy, he might not even notice if Zoey is high AF, right?

Time to get weird. Danny tracks Zoey down to talk to her and immediately knows she’s high so, like any good boss, he joins her on her trip. Aiden, Danny and Zoey go on a trippy (and musical) walk where they act like total weirdos. Zoey ends up opening up to Danny about why she wants to stop caring and it makes him rethink his entire life and the company. Thankfully, Zoey realizes that she really does like to care and is able to convince Danny to stick around (at least for now).

Max and his dad. Max’s dad is in town and starts grilling him about his life and pushes him to move back east. Apparently, Max’s whole family are in the dental business. Max’s non-restaurant biz is not getting the investors they need, so Mo suggests they turn to Papa Richman. Watching Max pour his heart out to his Dad (via a gorgeous rendition of “Numb”) was heartbreaking. Max’s dad ended up giving him the check, but Max turned it down. He wants someone to invest that actually believes in his business and that’s super understandable. He cares too much about this business with Mo to let someone in that doesn’t.

Simon. As mentioned above, Simon is put in a terrible position when Danny returns. Yes, it’s technically his job to defend the company to the press and public, but because he is a black man, he feels like he’s put in a super hard position. He seeks out the opinions of Mo and Tatiana to get their take on it, but ultimately decides to follow his gut and to call out the problematic issue and the lack of diversity within his own company. It’s super brave and we are so, so proud to see him take this stand.

Jenna and Maggie. Maggie turned down the invite of her new client who asked her out, and now he’s being a total douche about it. And guess who will NOT stand for someone being a jerk to her new pal? Jenna, that’s who. She handles it in a very mature and civil way. JK – she fills his car with manure and plants a cactus in it. It causes a mini rift between Jenna and Maggie, but they make up. YAY! They are so good for each other and we are eager to see more of them.
