Walker 1×01, Season 1, Episode 1, “Pilot” aired on The CW Jan. 21, 2021
Okay, ya’ll, grab your hats and your belt buckles – it’s time to head to Texas! The Walker series premiere is finally here and we weren’t ready for all that southern charm and Walker sass, but it will keep us coming back for more.
Here’s what went down

Immediate trauma
Look, we love drama. LOVE. IT. But is there a reason why all of Jared Padalecki’s onscreen loves have to die in the pilot (RIP Jess and Emily)? Let this man be happy CW! All jokes aside, the death of Emily, Walker’s wife was so sudden and so very sad. We knew it was coming, but it’s still hurt. We would have loved to see more of her and their relationship, but (hopefully) we will get that in flashbacks.

Micki!
We really weren’t sure what to expect from Micki, the rookie Ranger and Walker’s “by the book” new partner, but WE LOVE HER! She doesn’t take any of Walker’s crap, she’s super smart and a total badass. They dropped a little of her backstory and hinted at some major drama with her mother, which adds another interesting aspect to this character that we are eager to see explored. We also love her non-boyfriend and hope to see more of that relationship soon!

Papa Walker
His kids are grieving the loss of their mother and, in a way, the loss of their dad, too. Right after Emily was killed, Walker left to seek answers, leaving his kids behind with his family. While it was a little weird to think of Jared Padalecki as a father to teens, we love the tension and family drama that older kids bring to this story.

Brothers!
We are loving the brotherly bond between Walker and Liam. Liam filled that fatherly role that was left vacant when Walker left for his wife’s case and even after his return we see him provide so much support to Walker and his kids. Love him. The family vibe in this show already feels so strong, even with the growing tensions.

Mystery
One thing that we really loved about the premiere was the mystery. Emily, Walker’s wife, was killed and a poker chip was found on her body. Walker also noted that someone had closed her eyes. They also found a drug smuggling operation in this episode and one of the smugglers mentioned Emily. Could it all be connected? We love when a show plants the seeds of a mystery and then builds toward the truth throughout the season or even the series. We are hooked!
