‘Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist’ 2×02: The distraction we ALL needed

Distractions, connections and an epic duet!

Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist 2×02, Season 2, Episode 2, “Zoey’s Extraordinary Distraction” aired on NBC Jan. 12, 2021

Distractions can be good and sometimes they can suck, but in Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist 2×02 – they were all entertaining as heck! Before we break down the distractions and their solutions, it should be noted that these are solutions to the current issues in the episode. We have a feeling that the problems that these distractions stem from (Zoey’s grief and that pesky love triangle) will still be there when all is said and done. Here’s what went down!

The Brogramers distraction. At SPRQ Point, things are blowing up – literally. Zoey is the boss, so Leif is now the manager of the crew of programmer dudes. Leif was one of the bro’s for so long that it seems he’s having a hard time getting them to focus on actual work, resulting in a huge mistake!

Solution: In order to combat the lack of focus that the overly bro’ed out team is currently experiencing, Zoey and Leif decide to add some much needed female energy to the mix. We love to see it!

Emily and Maggie’s distraction. Maggie is still (understandably) struggling with how to spend her time now that Mitch has passed. So when Emily’s high energy sister, Jenna, comes to town and starts driving Emily crazy, Maggie turns her attention towards Jenna and she is a welcomed distraction for Maggie.

Solution: Maggie works with Jenna to help her understand how to be more helpful to her sister. They decide to team up and babysit to give the new parents a much needed night off.

Mo’s distraction. Mo and Max’s restaurant biz is just starting out, but before it can even get off the ground, Mo is distracted by his past partnerships. He immediately distances himself from Max and their idea, worried that history will repeat itself and he will step on him to accomplish his goals, thus killing their friendship.

Solution: MAKEOVER! Well, sort of. In an effort to get Mo to open up, Zoey agrees to let Mo give her a makeover and try some trust activities with Max. Mo finally opens up to Max and they decide to proceed with their business idea! We are loving this friendship!

Zoey’s Max distraction. In the last episode, Zoey kissed Max and we pick up right where we left off. She is wonderfully distracted by all the Max kisses (until her mom walks in)! Maggie isn’t the only obstacle for Max and Zoey’s hormones – the Mo drama puts a damper in things too.

Solution: The Mo/Max solution and the Emily/Maggie solution above finally give Zoey and Max the moment they need to get down.

Max’s Zoey distraction. They FINALLY find a distraction free moment, but instead of letting himself sing heart songs in the moment, Max tries to distract himself by singing “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” – quite possibly the least sexy song of all time.

Solution: (After the absolutely AMAZING solo song battle of “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” and “I’ll Make Love to You” by the ridiculously talented Skylar Astin), Zoey is able to convince Max that she likes the heart songs and even duets with him! It’s such a cool moment to see Max singing inside with heart song music and then Zoey singing with him in real life. Also – yay, they did it!

There you have it – the distractions and solutions that made up this awesome episode. It was packed with some wonderful songs, as always. Emily’s sister rant, Leif’s confession and Mo’s admission were all so great. No sophomore slump here, this show just keeps getting better and better.
