Julie and the Phantoms star, Alison Araya, plays the helpful (sometimes TOO helpful) sister of Julie’s late mother, Aunt Victoria. Her character makes it her mission to keep Julie’s life on track in her sister’s absence. We chatted with Alison Araya about her role, if ghosts are real and if she has any season 2 news!
Pure Fandom: First, we have to say how much we love Julie and the Phantoms! It’s such a fun and sweet show! What has it been like to see the fan reaction to this series?
Alison Araya: The fan response has been absolutely incredible. I knew when we were filming that this show was something special, and the fans agree! I’m blown away by the support, the fanart, the covers and all the love coming at us from all over the world makes me so happy and proud to be a part of this show.
We love Aunt Victoria! She is pushy, but in such a loving way! What was your favorite Aunt Victoria moment?
Thank you! I loved playing Aunt Victoria. I have so many great memories from the set, the “haunting” scene with Reggie and Carlos was so fun, and I loved the big show in the final episode. There were so many magic moments.
We have to ask the obvious question – do you believe in ghosts?
Absolutely! I think most people have had a ‘spooky’ moment, but I gotta say I’ve had a few of those in my lifetime and I’m convinced that yes, ghosts are REAL!
2020 has been a very wild year to say the least. What have you been doing with your extra time at home?
I kept myself busy over the summer with a garden and I totally redecorated my home. I also took a lot of online classes, and like most did a lot of cooking. It was actually nice to slow down and take a time out of the usual busyness!
Do you have a favorite Julie and the Phantoms song?
All of them! The songs are incredible and sooooo good. I love Bright, Wake up, Edge of Great… I mean, I sing along to them all!
We are all crossing our fingers that Julie and the Phantoms will be renewed for season 2! Any news on that?
I think we are all hoping for a Season 2, no news on that, just have to keep crossing our fingers!
So many things are on hold, but do you have any projects coming up that you are able to talk about?
I’ve been so fortunate to be back at work and keeping busy. I have a few Christmas movies for Lifetime and Hallmark coming up, but my other projects are under wraps for now!
We definitely need a season 2 of this amazing show and we always need more Aunt Victoria!
