‘The 100’ 7×02: “The Garden” recap

The 100 7×02, Season 7, Episode 2, aired on The CW May 27, 2020

This episode sheds some much needed light on the biggest mystery of this season and gives us some insight into where Bellamy is. The structure of this episode shows us the past and present as Octavia and Echo work to get to Bellamy while on Skyring. It’s such a cool way to explore these stories. Here’s what went down!

Octavia and Diyoza. These women have made a lot of mistakes in their lives. One was a terrorist, one a cannibal queen, so to see them come together in isolation to reflect and grow is so refreshing. With baby Hope, they form a sweet little family and we can see Octavia’s influence (and by extension, Bellamy’s) in grown-up Hope, which gives her such a familiar vibe.

Hope is restored! Well, her memory is at least! Hope, Echo and Gabriel arrive in Skyring (aka Planet Beta) and it restores Hope’s memories. Hope is finally able to answer the burning question we all have – where the f*ck is Bellamy?! The answer – not Skyring. He was taken by the Disciples to Bordo, but there is no way to get to him because the code to go through the gate was washed away.

Stuck in the Skyring with you. Gabriel, Echo and Hope are stuck in Skyring with no chance of getting out for 5 years! GAH! It has us wondering what that means for Bellamy and his timeline. Will he be an old man when they find him?

New fam. It’s cool to see them working together to survive and it makes it even more interesting to have the flashbacks of Baby Hope, Auntie O. and Diyoza cut in. Hope may be a new character, but she knows so much about Echo, particularly how she stabbed Octavia and seeing her call Echo out on it was actually pretty great. Echo has sort of been on the sidelines up until this point, but this dynamic with Gabriel and Hope really works.

Octavia’s redemption. It is so wonderful to see Octavia find peace. From the start of this show, we have seen Octavia change and adapt to her surroundings in order to survive, but now she can put down her sword (take a bath) and take stock of what actually matters to her. While we love to see her happy, it’s the emotional moments of this episode where we really see the change in Octavia. Her guard is down, her heart is on full display and it’s heartbreaking. That Blake sibling reunion is going be so emotional and soooo amazing.

Gabriel, the ultimate nerd. In Season 6 he was this super mysterious, almost mythical figure and it was great, but season 7 has him playing the tech-tastic, Becca fanboy and it’s a glow up we didn’t know we needed. If Gabriel doesn’t fall in love with Echo or Hope, we think he would get along really, really well with Raven.

Can people just stop taking people? What the heck! Because of Octavia’s letter, the Disciples go to Skyring to take Diyoza and Octavia! It doesn’t seem like the Disciples are trying to hurt them, but it’s just another mystery that Season 7 has woven into it’s story.
