The Magicians 5×02 recap: Season 5, Episode 02, “The Wrath of the Time Bees,” Aired Jan. 22, 2020
The magic surges are still a problem, but our peeps have their own troubles to combat in The Magicians 5×02. Alice and Julia have to figure out a way to undo a problem Alice created, Eliot and Margo need to bust her out of jail and save their friends and Kady has to fight for her memories and figure out who is trying to take her down. DRAMA! Let’s break it all down the bee-tastic craziness!
Something Crazy. Alice has been struggling with her grief and decided to do something super crazy. She does a spell to bring Q back and she does, but he’s not the Quentin we knew, he’s a kid. And she can’t send him back until he does what Alice brought him back to do. It was a touching way for Alice to say goodbye to Q, and gives Alice some much needed closure. It was also so, so heartbreaking to see Julia get to speak with her friend one more time.
Ghost Fen. Over in Fillory things are still troublesome. Eliot and Margo are still separated and seeing ghosts – literally. Eliot bumps into Fen and she (hilariously) begs for him to turn back time. Fen is the BEST! Margo finds a letter from her dearly departed Josh and he gives her a little run down of what happened in Fillory. Side note, can we just have an entire episode of Fen and Josh trying to run a kingdom because we need it.
Remember me. Kady is still trying to figure out how to fix stuff, but things are put on hold when she realizes that she (and her one night stand) were drugged and they are both missing time. Turns out it was someone sent to erase her memory and it was her one night stand – ugh. Kady has a target on her back, and they need to find out why.
Time to steal time. Eliot has a plan – he is going to turn back time and fix stuff. He goes to Jane Chatwin’s and steals some time traveling tricks so he and Margo can undo Josh and Fen’s deaths. It does NOT go as planned (cue the killer bees). Margo wants to fight for Fillory and her friends, but Eliot is easily discouraged and wants to bolt on the plan. Margo refuses to give up, not just on Josh and Fillory, but on Eliot. She will save them all.
Ham sandwich to save the day! FINALLY, one of the plans worked! Josh brought a sandwich to the Clock Dwarf and he got all the cool Fillory peeps zapped to the future! YAY! We didn’t get a big reunion hug between Margo and Josh, but that’s okay. Everyone is back in the same time and they are ready to take back the kingdom!
Letters to Q. Quentin may be gone, but his presence in this story is far from over. Just as everyone is celebrating a victory, we see Eliot holding a letter with one of the time stamps and it’s addressed to Quentin. Now, if he sends this letter to warn Q, will it change the course of events? Or is it just Eliot FINALLY telling Quentin how much he cares? We need to know!
