The Good Place recap: Season 4, Episode 8, “The Funeral to End All Funerals,” Aired Nov. 14, 2019
Next week is the fall finale, but first, an episode directed by Kristen Bell herself!
“Snappy, Snappy Memory Fix-y”

The results of the experiment can’t be revealed until everyone’s gathered at the judge’s chambers, and Team Cockroach wasn’t allowed to be there. Even worse, Eleanor can’t be reunited with Chidi because the experiment humans were frozen in stasis. Power through, Cheleanor fans.
The funeral to end all funerals

To take their minds off the Judge’s impending decision, Team Cockroach decided to throw themselves the funeral to end all funerals, with Chidi there, too, even as he’s frozen.
Tahani’s funeral took place in a private jet as Eleanor admitted Tahani was the best friend she’s ever had. Jason’s funeral was at a pool, since he was born in the deep end of a pool, and Janet even wore a Jacksonville Jaguars hat. Eleanor’s funeral was at a bar, and she even got Tahani to wear sweatpants. I guess when ya dead, anything goes. Oh, and Chidi’s postman uniform made a return for Eleanor’s funeral.
With all the stress over the fate of humanity, these certainly were the funerals of, well, a lifetime.
“You’re glue”
Turns out all the humans improved in the neighborhood except Brent, who got 1% worse. When Judge Gen decided the evidence wasn’t overwhelming enough to rule in Michael’s favor, he had her look at the people on Earth Team Cockroach helped – Kamilah, Pillboi, Donna Shellstrop, and Patricia – to prove their intervention caused real humans on Earth to better themselves.
With the additional evidence…
“You won”
…Judge Gen ruled in Michael’s favor, agreeing that humans can always get better so the point system is entirely inaccurate. However, humans are just too complex, so a points system tweak would be inadequate. Sorry Tahani, no “Spanx but for your soul.”
To remedy the situation, Earth is canceled and all humans in the afterlife or on Earth will be wiped out so the human race can start fresh. Earth is too much of a mess, so erasing everything is the easiest solution. Even when you win you lose.

“I’m with them now”
In another twist, Bad Janet read Michael’s manifesto about the goodness of humans from a couple episodes ago and joined Michael’s side. She stole the Judge’s Earth-eraser and kept it in a Janet void, but the Judge doesn’t know which void because every Janet is on the humans’ side now. That’s right – every Janet.
So now the team has to come up with a whole new way to judge humans that’s more accurate of who humans can be. Eleanor knows it’s time to wake Chidi up because he’s the right person to help them figure out this new system. I am so anxious to see how Chidi reacts to, well, everything – the new experiment, getting his memories back, the task at hand. But…
After next week, no new episodes until 2020? THIS is the Bad Place!
