I feel like Taylor Swift’s new album belongs in a wide array of settings. From an energetic Gay Pride Parade, or a candlelit room soaking in a bubble bath, or even deep within a green and lucious forest.
Each setting has a different tone and message it wants to convey. However, each song in Lover, and in turn each location, has one thing in common. Romance. In all its forms.
Taylor’s album Lover talks about love in all it’s complicated facets and natures, yet still magnifies the simplicity of what it means to love purely.
Without judgment, envy, and with an ability to live in stillness.
Simple and complicated. It’s contradictory but it makes all the sense as Taylor sings to us. That’s why I (and many others) regard Lover as her best album, and are very excited to dance to this era of Taylor Swift for the rest of our lives.
Let’s revel in her genius together as we compare some of our OTP’s to songs in Taylor Swift’s Lover:
“Lover”
Stiles and Lydia (Stydia) from Teen Wolf
Notable lyrics: “And there’s a dazzling haze, a mysterious way about you, dear / Have I known you 20 seconds or 20 years?”
The foundation of Stiles and Lydia’s relationship rested upon their “unspoken” connection. Stiles and Lydia are kindred spirits, and Stiles (who is often the most emotionally mature) recognized that off the bat.
Stiles and Lydia exemplify the title song “Lover” because their relationship is about friendship, and a love without limits. There’s multiple scenarios in which Stiles and Lydia just stayed friends (because either one of them was being dumb), but there’s no scenario where they aren’t one of the most important people in each others life.
But the real root of why their song is “Lover”, is because once they have each other, that’s it. They will always be that close. It will always be that easy. They will solve mysteries together but will also live a life celebrating the quiet moments. And they’ll be fulfilled.
(P.S.: I think Taylor Swift is the only one who managed to call someone her lover without making it sound creepy)

“The Archer”
Oliver and Felicity (Olicity) from Arrow
Notable lyrics: “I’ve been the archer, I’ve been the prey / Who could ever leave me, darling / But who could stay?”
Sigh. Oliver and Felicity have been through so much. And they’ve established long ago that who they want by their side through all of it, is each other.
It’s Arrow‘s nature to put Oliver and Felicity on a merry-go-round of whose “the archer” and whose “the prey” each week. But it’s also Arrow‘s nature to repeatedly remind us that Oliver and Felicity will always stay for each other, even if they cannot physically stay with each other.
If there’s any couple that deserves happiness it’s these two. Thankfully they are in some paradise dimension sipping margaritas and dancing in the moonlight. Together, finally.

“Miss Americana & The Heartbreak Prince”
Kara and Lena (Supercorp) from Supergirl
Notable lyrics: “It’s you and me, that’s my whole world / They whisper in the hallway, “She’s a bad, bad girl”
I mean, this song was made for Kara and Lena. With it’s political messages that are on brand for Supergirl, and with it’s confessions of love.
Whether or not Supercorp ever becomes canon (and it should) Lena is extremely important to Kara. And no one believes in Lena like Kara does. They whisper in the hallway.
But Kara is still voted most likely to run away with her.

“Paper Rings”
Nathan and Haley (Naley) from One Tree Hill
Notable lyrics: “The wine is cold / Like the shoulder that I gave you in the street / Cat and mouse for a month or two or three / Now I wake up in the night and watch you breathe”
I know, I know. We’re still talking about Nathan and Haley from OTH? Yes, yes we are. Literally the only highschool marriage I will ever support.
Nathan and Haley are probably the quickest turnaround for the enemies to lovers trope. Were they what? Enemies for three weeks? Married in three months?
Anyways, they’re cute. They’ll always be cute, and they’ll always be goals.
Always and forever… I’m sorry I had too.

“London Boy”
Chloe and Lucifer (Deckerstar) from Lucifer
Notable lyrics: “And you know I love Springsteen, faded blue jeans, Tennessee whiskey / But something happened, I heard him laughing / I saw the dimples first and then I heard the accent”
Okay, we know Chloe loves Lucifer for more than just his accent. But, it doesn’t hurt.
And I do also associate this song with Chloe and Lucifer because they are opposites in a lot of ways, but still love each other deeply.

“It’s Nice To Have A Friend”
Francis and Mary (Frary) from Reign
Notable lyrics: “Church bells ring, carry me home / Rice on the ground looks like snow / Call my bluff, call you “Babe” / Have my back, yeah, every day / Feels like home, stay in bed / The whole weekend”
We don’t talk about Francis and Mary enough in my opinion. We also don’t talk about season 2. But, as far as arranged marriages go, they lucked out into marrying their childhood friend.
I have always liked Francis and Mary, and always saw the deep love there.

“Daylight”
Hook and Emma (Captain Swan) from Once Upon a Time
Notable lyrics: “I don’t wanna look at anything else now that I saw you (I can never look away) / I don’t wanna think of anything else now that I thought of you (Things will never be the same) / I’ve been sleeping so long in a 20-year dark night (Now I’m wide awake) / And now I see daylight”
Hook and Emma both closed themselves off from love, but then they met each other. They both messed up, and were messed up in relationships.
But since they met each other, they strive to be the best they can be. They make each other better.
