Whiskey Cavalier season finale recap: Season 1, Episode 13, “Czech Mate,” Aired May 22, 2019
It’s the Whiskey Cavalier season finale! I absolutely refuse to refer to it as a series finale; I’m in denial. Season finale or series finale – either way, it has all led up to this.
I wasn’t ready for everything that happened, and I’m certainly not ready for it to be over.
“You wearing my underwear?”
There’s flirting right from the start! Will was a bit of a showoff in front of Frankie, who admitted it was sexy. Then, Will helped Frankie pack for their mission in the Alps, and she ended up wearing a pair of his long underwear. Next, a Chinese takeout date at Will’s place. Ah, domesticity.
I always appreciate Susan trying to nudge Frankie into pursuing a relationship with Will. And no one can deny how smiley and giggly Frankie is when she’s around Will.
As the episode continued, Frankie was clearly conflicted over her relationship with Will, or lack thereof. There were longing glances and secret smiles, all leading up to what we’ve been waiting for…
…Except we don’t get any kind of closure! The Whiskey Cavalier season finale ended with a discussion of fate and an almost-kiss. So. Freaking. Close.
“Your girlfriend sucks”
The team was thwarted right off the bat as Tina tipped off Ollerman that the team was onto him. She then helped him hijack their safe house, threatening Ray’s life as leverage. Plus, Ollerman and Tina together? Ew.
Tina later admitted she used Standish for the reason we all figured: She considered him the easiest mark, severely underestimating him, I might add. Let’s just say it was pretty satisfying to watch Standish get his revenge. “Consider your ass dumped,” indeed.
In other relationship news, Jai walked in on Susan and Ray kissing, which he actually came to terms with. He even admitted to rooting for them.
Meanwhile, Susan attempted to deal with accepting that she liked Ray. Also, she knew she had to tell Will eventually, though she tried to avoid thinking about that particular situation. Turns out Will knew all along, and he figured she’d tell him when she came to terms with her feelings for Ray. Will is a spy after all; of course he figured it out.
“The simple beauty of chaos”
In return for Ray’s life, Ollerman requested the team do a job for him: Stealing billions of dollars for The Trust. It’s not an easy job. The laptop the team needed to steal was chained to the wrist of its owner. However, never count Team Whiskey out.
Except that wasn’t the real mission! The true mission was the assassination of the Russian minister of finance. And Ollerman planned the whole thing to frame the team. Tina would pull the trigger, and her association with the team would implicate them.
Even with Ollerman almost killing Ray, Standish beat Tina to the minister of finance and killed her before she could accomplish her mission.
Also, Frankie and Will went to confront Ollerman after his plan failed, though they couldn’t get through to him and he jumped out the window to end his story on his own terms.
I figured Ollerman wasn’t really dead, and I was proved right when he stabbed Standish on the street as Standish tried to tell Will that it was Tina who killed Emma. Is Standish okay? Does Will get Standish’s message? Will the team ever best Ollerman? I need to know!
Well, that’s it for Whiskey Cavalier. I’m still hoping another network picks it up. It can’t end on these cliffhangers! I’m going to be reeling from that for a while.
Covering this show was some of the most fun recapping I’ve done. I really hope this isn’t the end forever, but I’ll end this season with a toast to you guys for reading these recaps and flailing over Frankie and Will with me. Thank you.
