Whiskey Cavalier recap: Season 1, Episode 12, “Two of a Kind,” Aired May 15, 2019
This week’s episode is clouded in sadness as we got the news this week that Whiskey Cavalier will not be getting another season on ABC. Fingers crossed another network is interested.
In Whiskey Cavalier 1×12, we meet Frankie’s guardian, who reveals some secrets about our favorite CIA agent. Frankie wore a pink prom dress, and she dressed as Britney Spears NOT for Halloween, just to detail a couple.
Put on some “Cruel to be Kind,” and let’s get into it! Alternatively, you can put on showtunes, as Will listens to the Frozen soundtrack while he works out. Either way, here goes.
“We should go on the Ferris wheel”
In the episode’s opening mission, Frankie and Will were engaged in an epic chase. After some gunshots, Frankie asked Will if he was okay since they lost each other visibly. He didn’t answer, so she pulled a super cool skateboard trick and knocked her guy out so she could check on her partner. Fortunately, Will was just fine. Unfortunately, the guy Frankie was after escaped in her absence. This whole incident seemed to prove Frankie’s point that feelings get in the way of the mission. But it was still totally a nice moment.
Plus, in a semi-related note, even Frankie’s guardian, who hadn’t heard from her in years, could tell how into each other Will and Frankie were. Everyone senses it. It’s only a matter of time, right?
“I love how closed off she is”
Frankie’s guardian, who took her in after her parents died, married a man who got mixed up in the illegal drug market. Kelly, who taught Frankie everything she knows about how to handle her feelings (or not handle feelings), has changed completely. She went from intensely guarded and work-focused to open and caring. Let’s just say Frankie was completely caught off guard by this transformation.
However, despite her claims, Frankie isn’t totally uncaring. Presented with how happy her guardian is with a husband and kid, she was hesitant to catch Kelly’s husband and ruin her joy.
Oh, and Will and Frankie destroying a drug trader and his friends with tennis equipment is something I didn’t know I needed until tonight. It was every bit as absurd and amazing as you’d expect.
Frankie went to Daniel when Kelly wasn’t around to give him the benefit of the doubt. He put on a façade of innocence, and everyone fell for it, me included. We found out shortly after that he’s the mastermind of the opiate ring and that he is not a nice dude. The guy the team thought was in charge of the cartel is a “nobody.” Daniel is the cartel.
Naturally, Kelly didn’t believe it when Frankie tried to warn her. Frankie figured out that Kelly was also putting on an act. She pretended to be the clueless wife when, in fact, she tipped Daniel off that Frankie and Will were onto him. To be fair to her, Kelly was not in on it the whole time, and she did end up helping Will and Frankie in the end.
Operation Win Will’s Friendship Back
Frankie had a rough time dealing with losing her mark in Los Angeles, so Will asked Ray to try to find him. Ray, desperate to help out to win Will’s forgiveness for the Gigi situation, asked Standish to help when he hit a wall. Bribed with donuts, Standish agreed.
Standish accomplished the favor, then told Ray to cool it when it comes to Will, and Ray decided to consider that new method. And when put into action, playing it cool actually impressed Will.
“Susan is a scary woman”
Turns out Susan wrote psych profiles on every member of the team. Is it any surprise Jai and Standish had to know what was in them? Of course, they ignored Susan’s warnings and read them anyway, making them hostile and uncooperative. They were in denial, not wanting to believe what they read even if they knew there was truth there. Jai even revealed his secret lair he built at headquarters as he and Standish avoided Susan.
Susan definitely proved that she knows exactly what she’s doing. Jai and Standish stood in disbelief as they watched Susan trick a suspect with “truth serum.” She also knew the about Jai’s secret lair all along, even when no one else did. Even after proving herself, it took Ray, of all people, to convince Jai and Standish they were being childish.
Next week is the Whiskey Cavalier season finale. Ollerman returns, of course, and it looks like he takes Ray as leverage. Even though Ray made a mistake with Gigi, something tells me the team will still work to save him. Maybe Susan will reveal to Will that she’s with Ray now, if that’s still going on, I mean. Oh, and Tina’s secret gets revealed to Standish next week, which I’m sure will make Standish all kinds of upset for so many reasons.
I’ll see you next Whiskey Wednesday for what I hope is not the series finale of Whiskey Cavalier.
