Supergirl recap: Season 4, Episode 19, “American Dreamer” April 28, 2019.
Nia Nal makes her debut as Dreamer, Kara puts her ace reporter hat back on, and Lena pulls it together. These ladies made some waves this week. Meanwhile J’onn sat, James napped, and Lex was nowhere to be found. Let’s check out some of the top moments of this week!
Supergirl is still public enemy number one. Brainy is stranded at the DEO. J’onn is off world. James is having a melt down. There are no heroes currently protecting National City. This means it’s time to step up. Nia Nal takes to the streets as Dreamer. She begins the episode operating in the shadows.
- Nia saves an alien from bullies on the street.
- Ms. Nal rescues aliens in hiding from the children of liberty.
- Then Dreamer intercepts an attack at Cat Co.
At the end of the episode Kara has a brilliant idea. The people of National City need to be reminded that aliens are just like them. Every one of them has a story. Kara sets up an interview with Dreamer. Nia tells her story. We watch as some of the viewers start to change their minds.
Fight Your Demons
Where was Guardian during all this? James was busy with his random PTSD. This man was kidnapped 6 times when he was with Superman. He had also been shot before. The moment he gets shot on Supergirl all of the sudden he can’t function. This doesn’t seem to add up? Anyways…
- The team realize Lena’s cure gives James powers.
- His powers flare up when his PTSD kicks in.
- Instead of him continuing seeing a therapist, they leap to the most drastic conclusions.
Seriously, you have a bunch of scientist sitting in the room, but not one of them can figure it out. Is it at all possible that maybe James needs more than just one therapy session to help with his PTSD? This team always tries to take a shortcut. Per usual they all expect Lena to do everything.
The only one looking out for Lena is Brainy. He takes the reigns realizing she has been going through a lot. He works his mind palace magic, to help James get it under control.
I don’t know about you all but ever since Lex Luthor and Tess became the big bads I forgot about Ben Lockwood. He seems to be a throw away character at this point. When he isn’t in an episode I forget about him. Mr. Lockwood and his family however do appear in this episode.
Ben is taking his son on ride alongs with him. What kind of Dad takes his son on dangerous horrible missions with him? To absolutely no one’s surprise his kid doesn’t like them tearing apart families and leaving kids without parents.
Ben’s wife however is super proud of him. The woman is crazy. No worries, she is dead. (An alien killed her.) What goes around comes around Ben Lockwood. You experienced your first instance of karma. There will be more to come!
