Whiskey Cavalier recap: Season 1, Episode 7, “Spain, Trains, and Automobiles,” Aired April 10, 2019
First off, thank you to ABC for including the Oxford comma in the episode title. I appreciate it greatly.
While Frankie and Will didn’t act on any romantic feelings this episode, we did get some domesticity from the two that, honestly, was worth the teasing.
Also, shoutout to whoever’s idea it was to play that lovely international version of “Happy Together” as Will and Frankie walked to their safe house shed. Way to set the mood!
With that little tease, let’s jump into this Whiskey Cavalier 1×07 recap.
“Will doesn’t dislike anybody, but he hates Jimmy”
For some background, Will had history with the team’s newest mark. They met in the Marines, and Will noted Jimmy was great at his job. However, he also hustled contraband on the side. Jimmy continued climbing the ranks while simultaneously partaking in criminal activity for years, but no one could ever pin anything on him, which infuriated Will. Now, Jimmy stole plutonium and planned to sell it, and the team’s mission was to get that plutonium.
With Will and Jimmy’s first run-in of the episode, we got excitement right from the start because this led to the episode opening with a bar fight! The team was outnumbered, but they managed to hold their own and get a tracker on Jimmy. That was a promising start, sans Jai’s bloody nose.
With the mission completed early in the episode, there was nothing for Frankie and Will to do but hide out and wait around. However, because this is Whiskey Cavalier, Jimmy escaped imprisonment and Frankie and Will had to make a run for it to avoid Jimmy finding and killing them.
On top of running, although they still had the plutonium, Will was disappointed that Jimmy was still a free man, so Frankie made the decision to set Jimmy up.
With Will as the bait, Emma took the plutonium to safety as Frankie made sure Jimmy got what he deserved. I bet she was proud Will punched Jimmy before they took him into custody.
Trouble in paradise?
Will and Emma got into a fight because Ray pulled some strings to get Emma assigned to the team’s mission. In doing so, she was pulled off her own mission, all because she was Will’s girlfriend. She got mad at Will because he did nothing to argue when his job was put above hers.
Meanwhile, Standish also had some relationship issues. Tina, the undercover CIA agent from last week, asked Standish out for drinks, entirely throwing him off his game. It turned out Tina was very interested in Standish, and the interest went both ways.
And because I love team bonding so much, it was a delight to watch Ray, Jai, and Susan talk to Tina on Standish’s behalf. Even though Ray was the worst wingman ever, alpha Standish may just be the funniest thing I’ve seen all week.
“I like drinking with you”
Wine, cheese, fig jam, and slippers – the elements of off-the-grid domesticity between Frankie and Will. Even better, Frankie was the one in slippers.
With a record on and two open bottles of wine, Frankie and Will got comfortable. She even gave him a massage to take care of his tweaked shoulder. They were laughing and smiley and really talking…
…And then Emma crashed their party. What could’ve been. At least Emma didn’t let what didn’t happen between Will and Frankie wreck her relationship with Will. After everything the two went through this week, I’m not sure how much longer they can last.
Next week looks intense, and that excites me! An extremely dangerous criminal sets out to break up the team, and though he’s in custody, it looks like he’s got connections on the outside.
I’m also still waiting for that larger plot of The Trust to return. Maybe next week? Regardless, I’ll be back next Whiskey Wednesday!
