Whiskey Cavalier recap: Season 1, Episode 6, “Five Spies and a Baby,” Aired April 3, 2019
First of all, happy birthday, Will!
Secondly, we don’t appear to get more of that larger plot that was introduced last week, but it’s totally excusable because this episode was a gem.
With that said, this week’s episode didn’t follow an official team mission, but with children in danger, the team couldn’t refuse. What could go wrong with “Five Spies and a Baby” in an RV?
Find a friend who will help you hide the body
With the guys out working, Frankie and Susan bonded over shots at HQ. Frankie came to terms with Will and Emma’s relationship, while Susan talked about running into her ex-husband and his new fiance. Frankie said she would’ve helped clean up the bodies if Susan shot them, and Susan totally encouraged Frankie to tease Will about his new relationship. I really love these two!
After actively avoiding any time with a baby, Jai confided in Standish about never having kids because no kid deserves a father so particular. This was a big moment for Jai, and Standish didn’t tease him. Rather, he told Jai not to close any doors because he’s already changed so much since they met. What a nice moment of character development! What bromance!
Team bonding is my favorite thing, and there were plenty of chances for bonding because the team’s safe house and transportation for their newest mission was a single RV.
“Spring break Bulgaria”
What was supposed to be a quick mission for Will and Jai turned into a team project when they discovered their marks were trafficking not only drugs, but also children.
With nothing to go on but the baby Jai and Will found, who Will dubbed Baby Will, the team headed to Bulgaria to take down the traffickers.
Unfortunately, the bad guys were in Bulgarian law enforcement, leaving them untouchable to anyone but the team. It seemed they were on their own.
New team member
New character alert! Marika Domińczyk (Scott Foley’s real-life wife) plays Tyna, wild card with superpower-like abilities.
No one was prepared for Tyna. She thwarted Jai and Will on their first mission, then later caught the team off guard and kidnapped Baby Will from them.
However, in true Whiskey Cavalier fashion, Tyna was involved in a huge plot twist. She was undercover CIA pretending to work with the bad guys so she could take them down.
With her help, all the kids got reunited with their families, and the head of the operation was taken down, sent to be tried by an international body.
The bigger person
Will got freaked out after he called Emma during the mission and found her hanging out with Ray because all Will could think of was the betrayal that was Ray and Gigi. Did Will have anything to worry about as Ray and Emma bonded over drinks in the team’s absence – and on his birthday, no less? Well…
Frankie, of all people, reminded Will to trust Emma until she gives him a reason not to. What development for the character who has both trust issues and feelings for Will!
It is super clear that Will wants to be a father, but I was surprised to learn Frankie wants to be a mother! She told Will she always dreamed about having a little girl. She has really given it thought – bows and everything. Frankie was a total girly-girl!
I need a moment to let this information sink in, plus the fact that she trusted Will with it.
Moment of appreciation for the music in this show. I would totally buy the soundtrack if they released one. It is killer!
The trailer for next week is such a tease! I’m pretty sure nothing is going to go down between Will and Frankie, but the trailer set it up perfectly. Maybe not next week, but one day?
