Whiskey Cavalier recap: Season 1, Episode 5, “The English Job,” Aired March 27, 2019
A successful mission in Budapest caused some international agency clashing, causing the team’s services to be lent out to MI6. Let’s head to Britain for “The English Job,” shall we?
Also in this episode, we learned that at least 6 ex-boyfriends of Frankie’s have died. Plus, exploding coasters, courtesy of Jai.
No better time to not talk about your feelings than when you’re stuck in close proximity in a server room, and then in a closet. Getting stuck together in small spaces seems to be a theme for Will and Frankie, and I am loving it!
Though Frankie continued denying feelings and avoiding deep conversations with Will, she was clearly jealous when Will had his eye on another spy. And she did admit that she and Will had a connection! Progress!
“No ice cream for you”
A success in Budapest accidentally ruined an MI6 sting. Oops. So in return, the team was sent to help British Intelligence.
With help from Frankie and Jai’s criminal contacts in London, Frankie and Will went undercover in the criminal black market. They proved themselves worthy to the criminals in charge, and the two joined a planned, high-stakes robbery.
Despite a hiccup during the robbery, with the intel the heist gave them, Will and Frankie rejoined the team to figure out the criminals’ motives. They just didn’t expect a criminal organization called The Trust that managed to evade the team entirely. This might be the team’s greatest challenge to-date, as the bad guys are still out there.
Emma Davies of British Intelligence took an immediate liking to Will, and he seemed to reciprocate. Frankie did not approve, claiming she didn’t trust Emma because she got too friendly too quickly, but it was super clear she was jealous of how Emma and Will got on.
When someone in MI6 blew Frankie’s and Will’s covers during the heist, Frankie immediately blamed Emma. The culprit was not, in fact, Emma, but Emma’s assistant at MI6, working for The Trust. Frankie let her feelings control her there, a new move for her that forced her to address her feelings.
Jai was feeling a tad less-than as Ray incited a bit of a competition. He revealed to Jai that Susan is by far the smartest person on the team. Then, Jai learned Susan can speak 9 languages, two more than he can. Even worse, Ray told Jai that Standish’s IQ test results were higher than Jai’s. Jai had some major feelings of inferiority after all that.
Turns out Ray made up the whole thing, and Susan was in on it. Ray’s lies angered Jai, who vowed to get revenge. Something tells me getting Ray a cavity search at the airport is just the beginning of that revenge.
Dodging a bullet
After a near-brush with death, Standish was pretty freaked out. He fell off a roof into a dumpster (luckily). He begged for field work in past episodes, but he learned quickly that working in the field can be overwhelming.
Standish was entirely freaked out, terrified to go back in the field until a heart-to-heart with Will and a mission that required him to get on another roof. You’ll be happy to hear Standish got back on the horse – err… roof – and is back on track.
This episode revealed a bigger plot for the series, which I’m pretty excited about. Who is a part of The Trust? Apparently they’re everywhere. I feel like we’re in for some plot twists.
Things I’m less enthusiastic about: Frankie getting back to HQ after turning down a hookup to find Will and Emma kissing. But even though I NEED Frankie and Will to actually get together, I’m (surprisingly) here for this angst!
