‘Shadowhunters’: Secrets from the set – The things one does for work!

That Clace date? It was more complicated than we realized!

Welcome to a brand new issue of “Secrets from the set!” Katherine McNamara and Dominic Sherwood are back and invite us to get another exclusive look behind the scenes of Shadowhunters 3b! Previously, they revealed how hard it can be to keep a straight face while filming dramatic scenes.

This time, they take us back to the romantic Clace date that had us swooning in the last episode “A kiss from a Rose” (find our recap here). Ever been in this position where you needed a whole new skill set to do your job properly?  Kat certainly can relate!

When showrunners Todd Slavkin and Darren Swimmer called her up to inform her about Kat and Dom’s impending ice-skating date in episode 14, she automatically assumed that Clary would be the one to be really bad at ice-skating while Jace would be the one to excel at it.

Imagine her surprise when she found out it was supposed to be the other way round! The problem? Kat had no previous ice-skating experience. Dom, on the other hand, is really good at ice-skating and was therefore faced with his own problems:

“So, the skating ring scene. I actually can ice-skate fairly well, and Kat was a little more nervous. She got quite good at it with a trainer quite quickly. […] When she’s backwards, I was guiding her and making sure she was upright, but still I had to look like I was terrible at it.”

Wow! We never would have guessed things weren’t quite as they appeared to be! But we certainly admire the cast’s spirit when it comes to challenges:

Kat: But you know, you pull yourself up by your skate-laces and get through it!
