Whiskey Cavalier series premiere recap: Season 1, Episode 1, “Pilot,” Aired Feb. 27, 2019
Welcome to this action-packed, exciting start to a new show! Between the “who’s on what side” feature of secret agent shows and the need to absorb everything, the hour absolutely flew by. Most of the characters were instantly likable for me, and I totally need more of them. This is going to be a fun show to look forward to every week.
Let’s get into it!
Will Chase, aka Whiskey Cavalier – FBI. Frankie Trowbridge, aka Fiery Tribune – CIA. They’re both after the same target. Neither of them wanted to work with the other, and they were both determined to get in each other’s way. Also, one of the greatest meet-cutes ever.
Since Will refused to take time off despite a very public ending to his engagement, the viewer was thrown directly into the action with him – one of the best decisions the show made. No Lousy Pilot Syndrome for the Whiskey Cavalier season premiere!
I already ship it
I love everything about Frankie and Will – everything. From the moment he saw her and time seemed to slow down to Will performing surgery with a kitchen knife to save Frankie, I love it all.
Will and Frankie have the type of relationship practically made for fangirls. She has trust issues; he believes in love. They clash on almost everything, then are forced to work together. There was even a fake-marriage scenario for a minute. The banter! The sexual tension!
What should the ship name be? I’m so in.
Edgar Standish, wanted for hacking into federal databases and copying the information, including names and covers for every CIA operative, onto a chip, was never planning to sell that data after all. Rather, he worked to find weaknesses in the systems, and when he found that someone on the inside was a rat, he intended to be a whistleblower.
That was an interesting turn of events, and now he’s part of the team. I’m glad. He’s snarky. I liked him and his multiple hilarious interactions with Will. I think he’ll be quite the asset for the team. And what a team it is…
I was not ready
That twist ending – the FBI boss was the bad guy! We learned early on that someone on the inside was corrupt, but little did anyone know it was Will’s boss! He was selling the weapons the FBI took in as evidence this whole time. The only reason he sent Will after Edgar was because the info on that chip could expose him for the traitor he was. I DID NOT SEE THAT COMING!!!
Also didn’t realize Ray was going out with Gigi, the woman who broke Will’s heart. That was a betrayal before the shocker.
And with that, Will and Frankie were tasked with leading their own team, including Edgar, Will’s friend and FBI profiler (also Frankie’s biggest fangirl) Susan, and Frankie’s friend Jai (you know, the bartender). What a way to set up the premise for the rest of the show!
This pilot was able to introduce and set up the rest of the show without just giving us backstories from the get-go. I’m really looking forward to seeing where this show goes. Plus, I want to spend more time with these characters!
Basically, the Whiskey Cavalier series premiere was a promising start, and I hope you’ll all watch with me!
