‘The Good Place’ recap: 3×11 “Chidi Sees the Time-Knife”

The Good Place recap: Season 3, Episode 11, “Chidi Sees the Time-Knife,” Aired Jan. 17, 2019
In “Chidi Sees the Time-Knife,” we went to the IHOP, Michael did a mean floss, Cheleanor moved in together, we got more political jabs, and we revisited the Medium Place. I don’t know about you guys, but all this IHOP business is making me really, really want pancakes.

This IHOP is the meeting place with the judge because her powers are limited there, and Michael was basically trying to avoid instant retirement. The judge could, however, make the nowhere IHOP look like an Earth IHOP, which is some weird meta-IHOP nonsense that I loved.

The IHOP is full of dangers, and “Chidi Sees the Time-Knife” by stepping in the wrong place when the IHOP looked like a conference room, rather than the super trippy IHOP. The Time-Knife, by the way, is a trillion different realities all holding onto each other to form a knife-like structure.

Also, what exactly does that thing around Tahani’s neck do?

“Earth is a mess, y’all”

In order to learn what humans go through to be a better judge, Judge Gen took a trip to Earth. She learned firsthand about all the factors that make decisions a winless situation for humans.

Best of all, the idea came from Jason, who, for the second week in a row, dropped an insightful view of human nature.

Mindy St. Claire returns

After coming to an agreement to set up another neighborhood experiment like the one Team Cockroach went through, there was only the matter of where to do it. Eleanor came up with the brilliant idea to use Mindy’s backyard since the neighborhood couldn’t be in the Good or Bad Place.

Welcome back to the Medium Place, all! Mindy is exactly like I remember her. But Derek – not so much.

Son/rebound booty call

Jason asked Janet on a date, and she accepted. However, things got awkward when Janet was reunited with Derek. Mindy found a way to reboot him, and every time she did so, he got a bit more advanced. Derek is a totally new not-guy now.

Later on, as Janet worked to populate the new neighborhood with Janet babies, Derek volunteered to help out. The two of them got working on making actors to surround the new humans, bringing out jealousy in Jason. I’m assuming we’ll get more of this plot in the future, since this is pretty much where the Janet-Jason plot ended this week.

The project

Michael has one year to prove that four different humans are capable of becoming better people. If he fails, Team Cockroach will be tortured for eternity. To make things worse, Shawn made a Michael suit (currently in use by Vicky!), and he plans to use that “Michael” to torture the humans, making their torture worse with the feeling of betrayal. The pressure is too much for Michael.

Welp, Michael froze up at the start of the experiment. With the lead of the project down, what will happen with the experiment?

I am SO EXCITED to see a new neighborhood experiment. I’ll be looking forward to this all week!
