The Good Place recap: Season 3, Episode 10, “The Book of Dougs,” Aired Jan. 10, 2019
The Good Place is back, and we’re in the Good Place – well, the mailroom. Everything about this episode was delightful right from the start. There was a savage burn on today’s politics from Jason of all people, and a chipper Good Place employee, Gwendolyn, played by Nicole Byer (think Nailed It)!

So take a deep breath (because the Good Place smells like whatever makes you happiest), and let’s explore one room of the Good Place.
Also, moral truth smells like warm pretzels, huh?
“We’re four Oreos from heaven”
The Soul Squad ended up in the Good Place mailroom, which contained a phone to the Good Place Committee and a door to the actual Good Place. Michael called up the Good Place Committee in an attempt to get them to investigate the Bad Place’s potential tampering with the points system. Meanwhile, Eleanor decided to try to open the door to the actual Good Place, even though they were all told the door would not open for humans. It drove her crazy that all that separated her from the Good Place was a 2-inch door.
“Let’s go on a date”
Eleanor was freaking out about being in the Good Place but not being able to enter actual Good Place. In total irony, Chidi was tasked with calming Eleanor down. As a means of coping and distraction, he suggested the two go on a date because making the most of the situation beats the “anxiety sweats.”

Popping Champagne and nicely setting a table, the two talked about how happy they were. It was romantic and sweet, and there were multiple declarations of love. And then Chidi put on a Good Place postman’s outfit, which brought Eleanor to happy, miserable, horny tears. And, yes, she took full advantage of that outfit.

“Death did us part”
At Tahani’s suggestion, Jason came clean and told Janet that they saw her shrine to him when they were in her void. Seeing Janet so upset at Jason and Tahani’s marriage, Tahani decided that since both she and Jason were dead, their marriage would be annulled, thought that didn’t exactly go the way she anticipated.

At a loss, Tahani simply apologized to Janet, and the two break down into tears. It’s one big love fest, really.

“There are so many unintended consequences to well-intentioned actions”
The Bad Place wasn’t tampering with the points system after all. Rather, every day, the world got more complicated. And every day, it became harder to be a good person.

With that in mind, Michael turned Team Cockroach into the judge, who agreed to meet them at IHOP – the Interdimensional Hole of Pancakes – to discuss. Time for the Brainy Bunch to save the world.
Next week, we meet the judge at the Interdimensional Hole of Pancakes. With this revelation that it’s not the Bad Place messing with the points system after all, I wonder how the group will go about trying to fix things.
