‘Daredevil’ recap and review: Season 3, Episode 12, “One Last Shot”

Ladies and gentlemen of the jury...

Daredevil recap: Season 3, Episode 12, “One Last Shot”, Aired on Oct. 19th, 2018

Fisk reunites with Vanessa (Ayelet Zurer returning to the show) and the avocados at law ride again in the penultimate episode of Season 3. Matt decides to go with Foggy’s plan to go the legal route and to have Nadeem testify in front of a grand jury.

The avocados at law are back!

Right off the bat, it brought me great joy to hear Foggy say “Nelson and Murdock, attorneys at law” with Matt cracking a slight smile. The first 20 minutes are very Nadeem-heavy. Jay Ali quietly puts on a great performance of a man who’s on the brink of losing everything, His wife wants to leave him and he realizes that in order to redeem himself in the eyes of the FBI and his family, he decides to do his time in prison. The three of them try to get Stephen Tower on board with a caveat of Foggy bowing out of the race for district attorney.

Filling the void

Elsewhere, Dex tries to force his way into Fisk’s good graces by getting the painting from Falb on his own accord. Despite that nice gesture, Vanessa noticed some blood on the frame. Dex, as he puts it, wants to be thought of as “a new Wesley”. Wilson Bethel conveys Dex’s desire for validation in an unsettling manner.

Over in court, Foggy is waiting outside before the hearing starts and he suspects Matt and Nadeem have ran into trouble…they are! There’s a cool action scene where Matt and Nadeem are escaping Fisk’s henchmen. There’s a moment where Matt tells Nadeem where to shoot was pretty awesome. They make it to the courthouse and the hearing can begin in earnest and Karen announces to the press that Nadeem is testifying right now.

One road left to cross…

However, Fisk stays several steps ahead of everyone by having the jury in his back-pocket and the verdict was overturned. Resigned to the fact that he’s unstoppable, Nadeem goes home. Fisk decides to keep him alive so he can live with the failure…However, Vanessa, fully entrenched in his criminal life, wants him dead. Dex is then sent to kill him and Nadeem dies. Jay Ali gave it his all in his swan song.

Fed up with Fisk and pushed to his breaking point. Matt decides to kill Kingpin. Just as things are getting better between the core trio. We are going two steps back.

Something’s gotta give as we head to the finale. Is Daredevil one bad day away from becoming Frank Castle?!?

My fandom is multifaceted—I watch every Marvel live-action property (film and television alike) as well as DC's lineup. 'Daredevil' Season 1 made me take the leap into reading comics. I also have an affinity for strong, well-written female characters. I also love prestige series such as 'Game of Thrones', 'The Wire', 'Better Call Saul' and 'Atlanta'. When I'm not writing or watching Netflix, I'm a massive gamer and my PS4 is so worth two hours of my day.
