‘Supernatural’ 14×07 recap: “Unhuman Nature”

A little ditty, 'bout Jack and dying.

Supernatural 14×07 recap: Season 14, Episode 07, “Unhuman Nature,” Aired Nov. 29, 2018

Jack is sick, but Nick might be sicker. As Cas, Sam and Dean search to find a cure for Jack’s angelic suffering, Nick is spiraling even further out of control. This episode also highlights the unique bonds that have formed between Jack and Team Free Will. Also, all of the other hunters were MIA and we kinda didn’t miss them. Let’s break it all down!

Nick is officially evil. He somehow managed to survive Lucifer’s possession, but he is not free of that evil. His quest to find the truth about his family has lead him down a deeply dark path. He finally finds the answers he was looking for, but comes to the realization that he likes to kill.

Jack isn’t back. Cas tries to heal Jack, but it’s not as easy as waving his angelic hand over him. Jack is seriously sick and his make-shift family is hella worried. #Feels

Dr. Rowena is on the case. The hospital is not at all prepared to handle Jack’s sickness, so the boys call in an expert – Rowena! She does some witchy diagnostics and sees that without his grace, Jack’s cells are fighting themselves. He’s dying.

Hit the road Jack (and Dean). Something strange is going on with Dean. While everything is going down with Jack, Dean starts getting some dizzy spells but it’s not clear what it is. When Jack tells Dean he wants to leave the Bunker and live a little before he dies, instead of arguing, Dean agrees – not something we expected.

Not only does Dean take Jack out to live a little, he lets Jack drive Baby. It may not look like much to the casual viewer, but watching Dean patiently teach Jack how to drive is a huge moment in their relationship. The fishing and the beer just add to it.

Dean is very protective of his car, but it’s clear that something has changed in him when in comes to Jack. Or maybe Dean’s mini health shakeup is making him take stock of some things.

Who would have thought that Dean would be the one to take Jack’s sickness the hardest. If you recall, Jack and Dean didn’t get off to a good start. Dean clearly only had room for his Sammy and his Cas – until now.

Watching Dean and Jack slowly start to bond over the course of this season has been a high point of Season 14. Cas and Jack were an easy fit for a solid connection (because angels and stuff), but it’s Dean and Jack that needed each other the most.

Shaman time. In a last ditch effort to save Jack, Cas and Sam track down a Shaman. He gives Cas a vial of Gabriel’s grace to give to Jack and it feels like the first win of the episode! Rowena performs a spell but it doesn’t go well and the Shaman is of little help. Jack is even worse than before.

Nick’s pain. As Nick pleads and prays for Lucifer to return to him and take away the guilt he feels, a creepy skeleton thing forms. WTF? Is that Lucifer rising from the void his “soul” (or whatever) was sent to when he died? WE ARE READY. This season needs a Big Bad.

What did you think of this episode? Do you think they will save Jack?
