Riverdale, Season 3, Episode 05, “Chapter Forty: The Great Escape,” Aired Nov. 14, 2018
Riverdale is back and whoaaaaaa the drama. G&G still has it’s claws in the peeps of Riverdale, but it’s the Midnight Club and their giant pile of secrets that takes center stage in this episode. Betty is the only one not hooked on G&G and she is using that sanity to track down the Gargoyle King. But Betty’s not the only one working a case in this episode – Veronica is spending her time on Archie’s case.
Here are the 9 biggest moments from Riverdale 3×06!
#1 Betty Cooper. This girl is everything. She is done with the secrets and the constant lies of the Riverdale parents. The best part of all of this is that the parents keep agreeing to meet with her despite knowing she is trying to get them each to confess to a murder.
#2 Kevin. Can we just stop to appreciate Kevin in this episode? He is a super underutilized character on this show and it’s so refreshing to see him in the action for once. More Kevin/Archie episodes please!
#3 FP’s screaming rescue. Okay, how nostalgic did you get when Billy – er – FP climbed through the window to save Alice and Betty from the Gargoyle King? It gave us Scream vibes FOR SURE, right down to the very burnt Jiffy Pop.
#4 Veronica’s detective skills. Now, we don’t want to look a gift horse in the mouth, but didn’t it seem a little convenient that Veronica found the “lost” footage so easily? It almost seemed like Hiram wanted her to crack this case, but why?
#5 Hiram and Jughead. How hilarious was that scene with Jughead and Hiram. Jughead reciting some weird crap with Hiram just rolling his eyes. We officially hate Hiram, but that was all pretty great and maybe the most relatable moment of the whole show. Hiram calling Jughead out on his weirdness is pretty on point.
#6 RIP Joaquin. We are still pissed at him after he tried to kill Archie, but it was pretty shocking to see how he died. WHAT IS HAPPENING?!
#7 Jughead stands by Archie. In another movie nod, Archie and Jughead walking down the tracks with super not practical bags reminds us of the classic flick, Stand by Me.
#8 Varchie is dunzo. Veronica and Archie have been so rock solid this season that it’s crazy to even be writing this – Varchie is on the outs. Archie is freed but he’s definitely not free. Archie will never be free with Hiram Lodge looming over every part of his life. He calls Veronica and says a tearful goodbye before skipping town.
#9 Betty’s locked up. Just when Archie secures his freedom, Betty loses hers. After the freaky Gargoyle King scare, Alice is done with all of this drama. She tells Betty that she is headin’ to the Farm and that Betty is going to be following the Cooper ladies’ footsteps – she’s dragged off to the Sisters of Quiet Mercy. F*ck.
