Daredevil recap: Season 3, Episode 6, “The Devil You Know,” Aired Oct. 19, 2018
Daredevil picks things up considerably with a baller sixth episode. Matt finally recognizes his distant behavior is hurting Foggy and Karen. Dex is spinning out of control about losing his FBI job, and Julie and Fisk (decked out in a white suit) plans his next move.
Birds of a feather…
Dex tries to make things right with Julie to no avail, and he finds out that Wilson hired her to work at the hotel. Fisk gravitated towards Dex because he understands where he’s been (killing his own father can make you sympathetic, imagine that!) and he thinks Dex having a life with Julie wouldn’t make sense for his potential. Dex, at his lowest point, considers suicide, until opportunity starts calling…
A movement alone, a force together
Elsewhere, Matt realizes how being Daredevil has given a lot and takes a lot away. Cutting off Foggy and Karen can only work for so long, and this episode starts to close the chasm he’s caused since he resurfaced. Foggy, Karen, and Sister Maggie can put up with his stubbornness, but they’ve made it abundantly clear that they’re not going to abandon him. There’s even a moment of levity between the ex-avocados which made me happy.
Karen’s at war with herself after confessing to Foggy about killing Wesley. Foggy assures her that it was in self-defense. Armed with the knowledge from the prison trip about Jasper Evans being in Fisk’s pocket, Matt asks Karen for help to get Evans to testify against Fisk for the NY Bulletin. Nadeem, with a new FBI promotion, gets wind of it and Matt offers to turn himself into the authorities in the hopes of clearing his name.
Will the real Daredevil, please stand up!
And then sh*t gets real.
Dex attacks the Bulletin killing every reporter in sight, including Jasper…wearing Daredevil’s armor! The third act fight scene is every DD fan’s dream of seeing Daredevil and Bullseye going toe-to-toe! In another Born Again twist, Fisk has persuaded Dex to wear Daredevil’s gear to implicate Matt.
Styles make fights as Matt & Dex face off for the first time, and it plays out like a right-out-of-the-page fight where Matt’s close-quarters approach clashes with Dex’s uncanny dexterity—he uses everything on the office floor from staplers to pencils to scissors. Matt fought his fight by chucking a trash can to get in close. It was bonkers!
Fisk’s agenda becomes clear to everyone. With Evans and a bunch of reporters dead, he’s running a smear campaign on Daredevil by having Dex wear the gear to turn Hell’s Kitchen against him. He’s now five steps ahead of Matt and company.
“Hi, Karen. It’s nice to see you again.”
It scared me when Dex said that to Karen, and one has to wonder if the show will have the balls to wipe her off the board completely…
