‘The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’: The Top 3 Reasons You MUST Watch Netflix’s Latest Offering

If you haven’t checked out Netflix’s latest series, The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, what in Hades are you waiting for?! I had a plan for my coverage of the new series. I was going to take my time and watch each episode and present my reactions after watching each episode. Well, that beautiful rabbit hole that is Netflix had other ideas. This show definitely merits a good binge. Thankfully it is the weekend, so kick back and take a trip to visit Greendale for 10 amazing hours. Read on for the top 3 reasons that you are definitely missing out if you haven’t watched the series yet.

1) It’s Hella Dark

This definitely isn’t the 90s comedy that many of us grew up with, and it takes leaps and bounds beyond the darkest moments that we’ve seen in CAOS‘s sister show, Riverdale. It’s a lucky thing that the show landed on Netflix, because the show has free rein to get totally dark. There are demons, ghouls, spells, and ‘Hail Satan’s aplenty.

2) Not a Single “Mary Sue” Character In Sight

It would’ve been so easy for the show to paint certain characters in a dark, flattening light and others as if they could do no wrong. Thankfully, CAOS goes a completely different way with this. There are moments when you wonder if our favorite half-human/half-witch, Sabrina Spellman has crossed the line into a new darkness. I won’t spoil it for you with details here, but keep an eye out for my full recaps on each episode. Sabrina is surrounded by a very interesting ensemble of characters. The show does an amazing job of layering so many complex details and allowing the audience to truly get to know these other people. No one is absolutely good or evil on this show…well there is this one character who does this thing, but again you’ll have to watch it all the way through to see exactly who I’m talking about.

3) Harvey Kinkle is a Marshmallow

Harvey is the most adorable on this show, but like the rest of the ensemble, this character gets a pretty cool backstory with his family history. Also, his grandfather is played by none other than Saul Tigh aka Michael Hogan. That curmudgeon will always be Saul Tigh in my heart and mind (So Say We All!!). Harvey and Sabrina have the sweetest relationship, but clearly, they face challenges aplenty. Plus there is a certain warlock, Nick Scratch, who does his level best to charm our girl away from her small-town sweetie.

Honorable Mentions:

Chance Perodomo as Sabrina’s housebound cuz, Ambrose Spellman is a revelation. Seriously! Also, how amazing are Lucy Davis and Miranda Otto as our favorite aunties? You’ve gotta check this show out!

A lover of words and moving pictures, I'm a fangirl from way back. Seriously—I grew up watching Daytime TV from my granny's knee. It was Knots Landing over Dynasty, and BtVS over pretty much everything else. I watch entirely too much television and am quite happy sitting in an empty movie theater on a rainy day. And if we’re talking bromances, there's no bromance quite like the Winchesters. Cort has been writing since she can remember and podcasting for nearly 10 years with @bradzb.
