Top 3 Reasons You Need to Watch CW’s Charmed Reboot
I was a diehard fan of the original Charmed series and I still find myself going back to binge on some of my favorite episodes. If you haven’t had a chance to watch the new reboot or only watched the pilot, you are truly missing out. The Charmed reboot is actually a pretty worthy follow-up with new sisters and all-new stories. Three episodes in, I’ll readily admit that the pilot (as most do) had some rough edges and that CGI demon left much to be desired. Watching the two subsequent episodes that, “Let This Mother Out” and “Sweet Tooth” provides a much better sampling of all the wonderful elements that this cool new show has to offer. Read on for our top 3 reasons why you need to watch the new Power of Three in action.
1) The Magic
I still can’t decide which is more fun. Watching Macy try to figure out the science within magic or watching the girls testing the limits of their new powers. Or maybe it’s watching everyone’s favorite new Whitelighter, Meghan Mar…err Harry putting his charges through rigorous training. Clearly this training is much needed with some in underworld already fully aware that the Charmed ones have their powers. Plus there’s already a new big, bad gunning for our girls. Personal gain aside, there was something magical watching youngest sister, Maggie playing fairy godmother to big sis, Macy in the most recent episode, “Sweet Tooth”. Our gorgeous and brainy, Macy had just confided that she’d chosen her (BADASS) Ruth Bader Ginsberg costume because she’d always been put in the box as just being “the smart one” by her friends. Maggie works her magic and breaks big sis out of that box. Other awesome magic moments? The girls accidentally dosing poor Niko with that truth serum and then setting her loose on the world. Ellen Tamaki is amazing as Niko by the way.
2) The Romance
Speaking of Niko. How adorable is she with Mel? I keep waiting for that reveal that Niko is actually a demon who really fell in love with her target, because that totally happens. I’m just hoping that Mel’s need to keep her new status as a Charmed one on the down low doesn’t result in Niko turning to her ex for comfort. Do not screw this one up, Mel Vera!! The show’s other romance which definitely set sail this week is between Macy and her friend/co-worker, Galvin. Sure work romances are generally bad idea, but I’ve definitely got a good feeling about this one. The way they look at each other is utterly swoonworthy.
3) The Sisterhood
Charmed in every iteration has always been grounded by the very real bonds of sisterhood. Mel and Maggie grew up together and are thrown completely when they discover that they are not only witches, but that they have an older sister. It’s interesting watching the trio discover all the ways that they are actually alike and whole their difference complement’s one another. Two of my favorite moments of the series so far involve this feeling of sisterhood. The first I already mentioned with Maggie giving her big sister that Cinderella..err Persephone moment and the other was when Mel faced off against the demon wearing their mother’s face to save her sisters.
Have you checked out the first three episodes of the new series yet? If so, what’s your favorite moment so far? What are the chances that Niko or Galvin turn out to be supernatural? What about Maggie’s new crush who turned out to be taken already by Maggie’s almost sorority sister, Lucy.
