The Good Place recap: Season 3, Episode 5, “The Ballad of Donkey Doug,” Aired Oct. 25, 2018
This episode explains so much about Jason as the Soul Squad, represented by Michael, Tahani, and Jason, aims to save Jason’s dad, aka Donkey Doug. And while that mission proves taxing for the group, Chidi makes a decision and struggles with the execution. I loved the two plots so much, I didn’t even care that the Soul Squad was split up this episode. Let’s travel to Florida!
Donkey Doug
In this episode, we learn why Jason is the way he is. Donkey Doug is basically another Jason. Michael and Tahani are in over their heads with this one.

Putting Donkey Doug on the right path is going to take more work than anticipated. He pitches Double Trouble (half-body spray, half-energy drink) to the members of the Soul Squad, who are busy trying to save him. Not only is he completely oblivious to their help, he makes things worse by admitting he needs to rob three factories to make his product. Not promising.

Chidi and Simone
Scared he’ll slip up and tell Simone about the afterlife, thereby dooming her, Chidi decides he needs to end things with Simone. Of course, things aren’t easy for Chidi, so Janet and Eleanor help him break up with Simone. Janet has Chidi run through several hilarious scenarios so he can practice, only to make a mess of it when it actually happens. “Ya dumped!”

But don’t worry, he does apologize.
A lost cause?
Michael starts to believe that Donkey Doug is unsaveable, so Jason comes up with the genius idea to save Pillboy instead. Jason decides to help Donkey Doug in exchange for him leaving Pillboy alone. When the police surround the factory with Donkey Doug and Jason inside, Donkey Doug sacrifices himself so Jason can get away. Pillboy might just get saved after all, and this scene with Donkey Doug had to get him at least some points.

Wow! That ending!!! Eleanor’s mother faked her own death! Holy fork! I swear, this show is the master of the plot twist. See you next week!
