‘Supernatural’ recap: 14×02 “Gods and Monsters”

Supernatural recap: Season 14, Episode 02, “Gods and Monsters,” Aired Oct. 18, 2018

Things are getting stressful on Supernatural. At the start of the episode, Dean is still gone – hijacked by Michael. Jack and Cas are sidelined during the search for Michael and Nick is a f*cking handful. Let’s break it all down in our Supernatural recap!

Michael’s experiments. The episode opens with Michael who is mixing angelic cocktails for a long line of monsters. It looks like he is trying to purify them in some way, but he keeps frying them instead. Turns out and impeccably dressed Michael is trying to create a superior monster. Is this the shiz he did over in Apocalypse world? Not cool man.

Cas, the babysitter. Sam gets a lead on Dean/Michael so Bobby, Mary and him head out leaving Cas to babysit Nick and Jack. It’s a little complex of a dynamic now, and (just like Cas), we are still getting used to Nick being Nick and not Lucifer. While Cas is dropping valuable words of wisdom on Nick about healing and moving on, Nick accuses Cas of being a body snatcher just like Lucifer. And then Jack sneaks out. Things are not going well…

Nick/Lucifer flashbacks. Holy crap. Poor Nick. Just poor, poor Nick. Now that Lucifer is gone, all of the memories of what he did as Lucifer are coming back to him on top of the family memories that flood his mind. Now that Nick remembers his wife and child, he makes it his mission to solve the murder, but the case is ice cold. When Nick sets out to get some answers, we start to see some hints of his body’s former inhabitant when he KILLS A GUY. Yikes. Kiss our Nick sympathy goodbye.

Michael/Dean struggle. Awwww, Dean. He is buried deep in the Archangel, but he’s still in there. Also, while we are sad to see Dean locked away for much of the episode, we are digging the change in wardrobe. H-O-T

Family struggles. A common theme in this show and in this episode is family. Nick is struggling with the loss of his wife and child. Cas is trying to manage his broken little crew. And Jack is trying to figure out who he is and even goes to see his mother’s parents. It’s more emotional than we thought it would be considering the craziness surrounding the pregnancy, but it was super sweet and sad to see Jack sharing memories of his mother with his grandparents.

No Jack. Jack saying that they will need to let Dean die in order to stop Michael if it comes to that was NOT okay! Baby sit down. You are brand new. Also, Cas and Sam are NEVERRRRRRRRRRRR going to let Dean die, so better start prepping for Apocalypse 2.0.

Dean is back? Now, we don’t want to look a gift horse in the mouth – but the return of Dean feels a little too easy. Michael said he was setting a trap for Sam, Bobby and Mary. Is this a part of it? Also, did Michael create super powered werewolves? Is that a part of the plan too? So many questions. Also, can Dean keep the hat? We like the hat.
