Hogwarts Day: Back to school guide for ‘Harry Potter’ fans

It’s that time of year! Hogwarts Day! School is starting up again, and it’s time to go back to Hogwarts! Whether you are going back to school in real life (and dream of going to Wizarding School instead of your real school), or you simply want to pretend you are going to Hogwarts instead of your job – we’ve got you covered!

Here’s your go-to guide for your return to Hogwarts.

Supplies

If you haven’t gotten your supplies yet, get them quickly, because there’s only a couple days left! Make sure you’ve got the right books for your year. Be careful of random diaries in Flourish and Blotts, we all know what happened last time. My favorite shop is, of course, Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes, so make sure you go there to stock up on Extendable Ears (cats are known to eat them), Puking Pastilles, Ten-Second Pimple Vanishers,  and maybe even a Pygmy Puff. Get your new robes and your pointed hat. Go to Amanuensis Quills to get your writing supplies, who needs pens when you can use quills?

Returning to Hogwarts

The Hogwarts Express leaves promptly at eleven o’clock. Don’t forget your ticket! When it arrives, you’ll be ushered into the feast in the Great Hall. What great food will they have this year? The Headmistress Professor McGonagall always gives a rousing speech and I can’t wait to hear what she says this year. The Sorting Hat ceremony will of course happen! Make sure you help the little first years around the castle, those moving staircases can be complicated.

Just remember that school isn’t just a time to learn, it’s a time to build friendships, and grow as a person. Don’t stress too much over your OWLs and your NEWTs, it’s not the end of the world to fail. Even if things are rough, remember that it’s not as bad as 1998. Most of all, remember to make good choices. In the words of the great Professor Dumbledore, “it is our choices that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.”

Have a great school year everybody!
