‘Supergirl’ SDCC: EP’s gush about Nicole Maines, TV’s first Transgender Superhero!

At SDCC, Supergirl dropped some pretty amazing news! The CW show announced the casting of Nicole Maines, an amazing transgender actress and activist who will be appearing in the show’s upcoming season! Maines will be playing Nia Nal, the newest member of the CatCo reporting team.

According to The CW, she is “a soulful young transgender woman with a fierce drive to protect others, Nia’s journey this season means fulfilling her destiny as the superhero Dreamer (much like Kara came into her own as Supergirl).”

Supergirl Executive Producers, Jessica Queller and Robert Rovner shared their excitement about the casting and the show’s dedication to inclusion and representation. Watch the SDCC press room clip below!
