SDCC 2018: Alex Kingston shares her excitement for ‘A Discovery of Witches’

A Discovery of Witches fans, rejoice! The TV adaptation of the All Souls Trilogy by author and historian Deborah Harkness had its first San Diego Comic Con panel, and it did not disappointed. Sharing clips of Peter Knox, Aunt Emily and Aunt Sarah, and of course star-crossed lovers Matthew and Diana, fans were craving for more. Following the panel, cast members Alex Kingston, who plays Sarah Bishop (and of Doctor Who fame), and Valarie Pettiford, who plays Sarah’s wife Emily Mather, shared with press why their characters’ relationship is so special and are some of the most memorable roles they’ve taken on.

Alex divulges that prior to filming, she and Valarie made each characters’ “scent” (book fans, you’ll love this!) so while filming the cast had an even more immersive experience into the fantastical world created by Deborah Harkness. The actors also share how production will slightly alter the events of book two, Shadow of Night, to include their characters in the show’s second series.

The series will make its debut in the U.S. and Canada on a date to be confirmed, with all episodes available simultaneously on both Sundance Now and Shudder, marking the first partnership of this kind for the two SVOD services. SundanceTV has also acquired second window linear rights to the series. The series debuts in the UK this September.
