Watch the first official ‘Doctor Who’ season 11 teaser
Is it a bird? Is it a plane? Is it an advertising spot for a restaurant? No, it’s the first official Doctor Who season 11 teaser trailer, starring Jodie Whittaker as the 13th Doctor. Okay, but seriously there’s so much food in this 40-second trailer, I did think it was a commercial for a restaurant at first.
In the teaser, we first see new companion number one, Ryan Sinclair (Tosin Cole), eating in a diner and watching a video on his phone when the table starts to shake. Light flashes and time seems to slow down around him as he watches someone eating their food in great detail.

Our next glimpse is of companion number 2, Yasmin Khan (Mandip Gill), eating pizza and hanging out with friends. Just like in the diner, she sees a flash of light and some furniture in her home begins to shake. It appears that time was turned back, because Yasmin opens the pizza box to find it completely uneaten.

Last but not least, we find companion number 3, Graham (Bradley Walsh). He’s sitting in a restaurant alone (more food, y’all) when he sees the same flash of light and some mysterious shoes race by. Interestingly, the newspaper in his hands suddenly becomes a 1981 edition of The Beano (a British children’s comic magazine).

After the words “the universe is calling” flash on the screen, we get a shot of Whittaker standing in one of the restaurants and grinning. It looks like she has a bit of a sense of humor and may have been pulling pranks on her three new travel buddies.
We also get to see our new Who opening sequence design, featuring a black background and ruby red, crystal like rocks.

Another fun tidbit about the trailer: RadioTimes says, “on your second watch listen closely to the football commentary from Gary Lineker, Rio Ferdinand and Alan Shearer – you might notice their punditry applies just as well to the Doctor and her companions…”
And this isn’t the first time we’ve seen Beano pop up in New Who!
