Everything we know so far about ‘Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald’
If you somehow haven’t seen Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them yet, stop and go watch it right now. This post will have spoilers. Now that you’ve seen it, let’s continue. The trailer for the second movie in the Fantastic Beasts franchise dropped in March, and I am freaking out. Here’s some things we found out in the trailer.
Credence is back
Credence, as we know, was an obscurial. When he was destroyed in the last movie, a little wisp floated away. It seems that wisp allowed him to survive, as he is alive and part of a circus. We also see him seemingly in more control of his powers, which will be interesting. He also seems to be rather close to a young girl, played by Claudia Kim, who is only listed at Maledictus on IMDb.
According to Pottermore, a Maledictus is someone who has cursed blood that will ultimately turn her into a beast. Is she a part of the circus? How did she and Credence meet? There are even fan theories that think she could be Nagini. If that’s the case, this will be a very interesting movie that will set up the Tom Riddle story.
Young (and hot) Dumbledore
Jude Law is playing Dumbledore! Excuse me while I fangirl. We have a Professor Dumbledore working with Newt to capture Grindelwald, albeit a little hesitant. Dumbledore tells Newt, “I can’t move against Grindelwald, it has to be you.” This is probably due to his old friendship with Grindelwald. That will be an interesting dynamic, and I can’t wait for the inevitable showdown between them. Especially with the fact that Dumbledore was once in love with Grindelwald (according to J.K. Rowling). How will Dumbledore react when he comes face to face with his old friend/love?

Grindelwald has escaped
All I can say is MACUSA needs some new Aurors if they keep losing this incredibly dangerous criminal. Now that he has been unmasked, more of the movie will be focused on him. Hopefully, that includes more backstory. I would love to see a flashback to his time at Durmstrang. What had him so interested in the Dark Arts, and what were those twisted experiments?
New and old faces
Aside from Maledictus we have a few new(ish) faces. Leta Lestrange (Zoe Kravitz), the mysterious woman that Newt has a picture of. We know they were friends in Hogwarts, but things didn’t end well. Could it be because she ended up engaged to his brother? We see her in a ball scene, is it at Hogwarts? Is it her engagement party? What will her appearance in this movie mean for Newt, who obviously still has some sort of feelings about her? We also see Newt’s brother, the war hero Theseus (Callum Turner). The question is, if Newt has feelings for Leta, how is his relationship with his brother? We see Theseus and Newt fighting side by side, so I hope they get to explore their relationship a little bit.

Speaking of siblings, the Goldstein sisters are back! Tina’s rocking a new hairdo to match her new job as an Auror, and I am so excited for her and Newt to reunite. That goodbye at the end of Fantastic Beasts had my heart hurting, and I can’t wait for the reunion. Also, thank goodness Jacob is back! He was one of my favorite characters, kind of reminding me of Harry when he first discovered magic. Seeing someone look at everything with the same wonderment as I did makes things seem more real. How are they going to explain his coming back? We know that some part of him resisted the obliviate rain because he was making beast buns, but how did he get all his memories back? Or did they have to do the whole introduction again? Either way, I’m happy to see him.
The other new faces are Jessica R. Williams, as unnamed character; Wolf Roth as a character called Spielman; Victoria Yeates as Bunty; Derek Riddell as Torquil Travers; Poppy Corby-Tuech as Rosier; and Cornell S John as Arnold Guzman. Most notably, Brontis Jodorowsky as Nicolas Flamel, the creator of the Philosopher’s Stone. What will his role be in the movie?
Cool Places
There’s going to be a lot more jet-setting in this movie! Shots showed New York, London, and France, there is a lot of travel in this movie. Hopefully this means we get some information on the Wizarding community in France. Maybe even see Beauxbatons Academy of Magic?
I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait until November! My wand is at the ready.
