‘Riverdale’ Season 2: What we loved (and what we hated)

Spoilers for Riverdale 2×22, Season 2, Episode 22, “Chapter Thirty-Five: Brave New World,” Aired May 16, 2018

Riverdale Season 2 was longer and had a lot more going on than usual. Some of it was great, some of it made us want to dip our heads in a vat of maple syrup, but we were still hooked. Before we get into what we loved and and hated about season two, let’s talk about the Season 2 finale!

Riverdale Season 2 Finale

Well, that happened. Riverdale‘s Season 2 came to a close with a head scratch and we aren’t super sure how to feel about it. Archie was arrested at the school’s pep rally because he decided to take on Hiram Lodge. Also, the Black Hood drama was wrapped up “nicely” and Veronica announced her plans to open a Speak Easy under Pop’s (which seems like the worst idea everrrrrr). Jughead healed crazy fast and is now the king of the Serpents, with Betty as his queen. Hiram and some of the other town adult scumbags are meeting to chat about their terrible plans. Oh, and Polly is going to lure Alice into a cult or some shit?! Gah! It’s just A LOT, guys. Let’s break down what worked this season and what most absolutely did not!

What we loved

Cheryl Blossom. She had some of the more compelling story lines this season and we are so very grateful. Her snake of a mother tortured her, sent her to a horrid, underground conversion therapy hell hole and she still ended the season in a red Serpent coat, legally emancipated and dating Toni. #Choni4eva

FP Jones. In season 1 we loved to look at him, but hated everything about his crap parenting. Enter Season 2 and we are ready to erect dad statues in FP’s honor. #RiverdaleHotDadSquad

Betty and Alice Cooper. Despite being surrounded by bullshit, Betty and Alice Cooper always had our hearts in their hands. Let’s just hope that Lili Reinhart is resting and hydrating because she did a LOT of crying in Season 2. She blew us away with her acting!

Musical Episode. This was a great episode and showcased the best parts of this show. Mystery, singing, and lots of drama!

The Ships. Bughead, Varchie, Choni, Barchie and even FP and Alice! Season 2 was full of couples and things were hot and steamy! This show may do a lot of crazy things, but it does romance very well!

What we hated

The Black Hood resolution. This was cool until we realized they really had no clue how to resolve it. Pick your favorite online Black Hood theory, because any one of those fan theories were probably more interesting than Hal and his “darkness” story line.

Every time Archie said “bones.” Seriously, OMG.

Chic. We were so excited to meet the mystery brother, but that was a big, fat let down. Chic was a creepy dude who just brought more drama into the Cooper house. He is not dead, so he will likely be back at some point. Oh, and he isn’t even their real brother!

Mob life. There was an abundance of mob talk in this season and it was a little draining. We can’t imagine that an underground speak easy run by a Mob Princess will solve that problem either. (shrug)

Archie. There, I said it.

Josie and Kevin. There was a severe lack of Josie and Kevin this season and it’s a travesty. We hope Season 3 opens the door to more stories for these two! (And more Moose and Kevin! THAT WAS AMAZING!)
