‘Supergirl’: The Journey of Alex Danvers

Hey, Superfans! Monday’s episode featured a pivotal moment in Alex Danvers’ storyline. Today, we will dive in to the importance of that moment and re-visit Alex’s journey this season. Let’s get to it!

The Fallout

We began this season with a “Yes.” Maggie Sawyer said yes to Alex’s proposal. Several episodes into the season Alex finds out Maggie doesn’t want kids. Yes, this is something they should have talked about ages ago. I mean seriously how had they not?

Agent Danvers and Sawyer begin to contemplate their relationship. Here is what they decide.

  1. The both love each other.
  2. Maggie is firm with her decision, that she doesn’t want kids.
  3. Alex realizes she really wants them.

Maggie tells Alex, she doesn’t want Alex to sacrifice kids for her. She tells her she will be a great Mom. Swoon.

They decide to break off the engagement like two civilized adults. Naturally, there was a lot of crying and feels. Sure, I am talking about me, but also them. They part ways.

“I do love you.”

“I love you too.”

The two love each other deeply, but want different things. The rest of the first half of the season, we get sad Alex. We were sad to Alex.

Then during the crossover episode we got the oddest surprise, a hookup!

I am sure the moment you heard about who would be in the crossover you started to think as I did. Sara Lance and Alex Danvers are meeting for the first time! Although, I didn’t know what I wanted to come out of it. I was still reeling from the Sanvers breakup.

I believe the episode’s outcome split the audience down the middle. Here is what happened.

  • Sara and Alex met at Barry and Iris’ engagement party.
  • They find out each other’s sexualities.
  • Lots of drinking.
  • They hookup!

Was it too soon after the breakup? Probably. I think more people would have been on board had this been later in the season. Nonetheless, these two make one hell of a pair. I am still team #AvaLance everyone, so stay calm!

They both decide to be friends. The hookup did what it was supposed to, help them move on!

The Turning Point

In the back half of the season we see a more confident and well rounded side of Alex. She is sure in her decisions. Her friendships with Lena and Sam have grown stronger. Agent Danvers family is growing.

Winn decides this is a perfect time, for a little surprise. In this week’s episode, Alex received a gift that quite frankly I have been waiting for since season one! Agent Danvers got her suit! That’s right people, Alex got a suit!

This is a perfect symbol on how far she has come in her journey. In three seasons she has come out, found love, suffered loss, and grown stronger for it. That’s why Alex Danvers will continue to be a fan favorite!

What are your thoughts on her journey? Where you surprised by the suit reveal? Sound off in the comments!

Supergirl airs Mondays at 8/7c on The CW. Check out Pure Fandom’s new podcast, SuperTalk, and tune in each week for my recaps.
