Empire, Season 4, Episode 11, “Without Apology”, aired April 4th, 2018
Here we are again for another list, this time with our favorite moments from episode 11. Things got crazy, tender, psychotic, murderous, and downright sad this week. We know, that’s a lot to take in. But not to worry, we’re going to break it down for you! As a side note, yes most of these moments do revolve around Lucious and Cookie. But after four years of this show, we should all be used to that. Without the two of them, we would have nothing. So prepare yourselves!
8. The nightmare
Lucious has been having some nightmares about Andre planting the bomb. He’s unsure enough about his memories to need some evidence a little more concrete. We have to appreciate the fact that Lucious doesn’t immediately jump down Andre’s throat and just beat the confession out of him. See? He’s grown. The beating comes later, after Lucious has given Andre a guilt trip on top of the oldest son’s already burning desire to tell the truth. Okay, so not that much progress has been made on the Lucious front. But even baby steps count, right?
7. Cookie giving up the throne
Listen, we know that no one wants to hear once again how Cookie spent seventeen years in prison to help build Empire. We already know this. But we do have to point out that this woman has sacrificed a hell of a lot more than seventeen years of her life in a horrid place. She pretty much gave up everything she had to be sure Lucious could continue with their joint dream. Also, she would have been willing to give up even more. Cookie has done nothing but kick, claw, and fight her way onto that throne and we’re kind of proud of her for just handing it back to Lucious. But haven’t either of them heard of splitting things 50/50. We’re guessing not since this is a concept that could literally solve the majority of their issues.
6. Tiana and Hakeem
Yes, we know that Tiana said she had to think about the proposal. But we’re pretty sure we know what the eventual answer will be. Even if she says no this time. They are literally a Lucious and Cookie in the making. The second generation of the ride or die definition. We love every second of these two on screen. Whether they’re at each other’s throat or at each other’s clothes.
5. Cookie goes cutthroat
Not that this is a surprise. Or even something we’ve never seen from her. But seeing Cookie calmly lay her cards out on the table like a bad ass in the business sense had us grinning. A grin that went full maniacal at the fact that she did it in front of Lucious. Damn right woman! Show that man how you’ve been running this company in his absence. He needs to know that Cookie has some skills and has been doing a damn fine job. Even though it’s all part of a bigger scheme to screw them over, we can still appreciate it.
4. The Divas
Okay, this was a little bit funny, and also sad. We actually spent a second thinking these three were going to be a threat to the company. But from what we saw of them, the only real threat they posed was to their own dignity. Literally the definition of sellouts, they should appreciate that Cookie and Lucious were willing to spend their time and money on them. While they may have some actual dirt on Empire, we doubt it’s enough to really hurt the company.
3. Becky and Jamal
These two have always melted our hearts with their friendship. They know how to be straight with each other and are rarely concerned with how the other will fare hearing the truth. Getting it out is more important to them. There is a bond between them that just goes beyond beautiful. We love their friendship and the way Jamal has always considered Becky family. She has a pretty good bond with both Cookie and Lucious as well, which is a rarity. So we know she won’t be going anywhere.
2. The King and Queen
Things just go so much smoother when these two are not only on the same page, but on the same side as well. Standing right next to each other seems to work the best. It just makes everything more fun to watch and at least ten times more enjoyable. We haven’t gotten to see it in a while, so we’re appreciating it when we get it. But we think it may just be around for good this time. That’s not to say they still won’t fight, because that’s who they are. All we’re asking for is a little tenderness now and again.
1. The showcase
We love when the music on this show is the focus. Sometimes things get so crazy that the music can be pushed to the back burner. But the 20 for 20 has been an exciting pleasure all season long. After a three month break from it, we were loving this event more than ever.
