Empire, Season 4, Episode 10, “Birds in the Cage”, aired March 28th, 2018
The return of the Lyon family is finally upon us! We can’t express how much we have truly missed this show! Not only that but we’ve just been dying to know what has been happening with Lucious. While the Claudia story line has gone about ten clicks past crazy, we’ll gladly admit that we are loving it! So let’s break it down and discuss our eight favorite moments of the return episode!
8. Claudia going Bates
If you’ve never seen the movie Misery, you need to go watch it. Or just watch this episode because there are definitely some serious similarities. Not only does Claudia channel her inner Kathy Bates, but she does it with a dash more psycho. Now, we’re not going to lie and say we didn’t enjoy it. This whole thing was pretty freaking awesome! A huge reason on why we loved it so much is coming next. So for now, let’s just focus on how much we love to hate Claudia and appreciate the devilish woman she has shown herself to be!
7. Lucious as a damsel
Here’s the other reason why we love the whole Claudia story line so much. So often over the course of this show, we’ve seen Lucious be unaffected by everything. The rare moments he shows emotion are usually only for himself. Even then, they are usually faked so he can come out on top or get something he wants. Lucious is also usually the one going and saving whatever member of the family is in trouble weekly. So it was great seeing him being the one to need help for once. Especially since it was crazy Claudia. Who Cookie has been suspicious of from the moment she laid eyes on her.
6. The flashbacks
We have always loved the flashbacks. Always. Especially when they show Cookie’s time in prison. There is still so much about that time that we don’t know and Cookie always stays so tight lipped about it. So every time we get to see even a glimpse of what she went through during that dark time, we appreciate it. Did you hear that show runners? We appreciate it! The flashbacks really give us an inside look into Cookie and help us to understand her even more. So when she goes out and does her usual crazy acts, we at least have a better grasp as to why.
5. Jamal’s decision
We understand Jamal’s guilt over shooting Angelo. But it was something that was way more than necessary. Things with that family have gone so far over the line, there was no coming back. Though Jamal does have the power to make us feel the tiniest twinge. This is also another moment that we think will help Jamal understand both Lucious and Cookie a little bit more. We have never gone so far as to say they are good people, but they do whatever is necessary for family.
4. Becky and Porsha
We have always loved these two, and we’ve grown to love their friendship over the years. But seeing them getting a bigger story line is our bread and butter. Plus, the entire pregnancy scene was both hilarious and wildly emotional. We loved every single second. More of these two fierce women is exactly what we need to see!
3. The next generation
It’s about damn time Andre, Jamal, and Hakeem stand by each other. Seeing these three finally getting over whatever issues they had was exactly what we needed. We all let out a sigh of relief that, at least for now, these Lyons are standing right beside each other!
2. Lucious’ song
We just can’t say it enough. We don’t care how bad they are or what they have done in the past. The love between Cookie and Lucious is beautiful and no one can tell us any different. Even if you do, we aren’t going to believe you. We are in complete denial and will always be trash for these two. Along with never accepting anything less than the two of them being soul mates.
1. The fight
Come on! You had to know this was going to take the top of the list! Not only did Cookie kick some serious Claudia ass, but this is a moment we have been waiting for. The moment Claudia came onto this show, we hated her. If you disagree, you’re either too nice or are in denial. She was bad right from the moment she appeared and we’ve wanted her ass to be kicked time and time again. It was something that needed to be done and being done by Cookie made it so much sweeter!
