Siren, Ep 1×01/1×02, “Pilot” & “The Lure” aired on March 29, 2018
Welcome back to Bristol Cove! In honor of International Mermaid Day, Freeform finally dropped its much anticipated new series, Siren. Tonight’s two-hour series premiere introduces us to Ryn (Eline Powell), our titular mermaid out of water. Well, she does end up in the sea a few times and it’s never a good time for her would’be prey when that happens. Ryn arrives in Bristol Cove after another mermaid (her sister!) is caught up in some fishermen’s net. The danger turns out to be the armed men who show up at sea to take custody of the newly caught mermaid and one of the injured fishermen.
Hit play and listen in as Brad and Cort break down the major moments in tonight’s premiere. Ryn proves that she quite capable of taking care of herself, even in a world that she doesn’t quite understand. She also meets up with Ben (Alex Roe) and Maddie (Fola Evans-Akingbola). The two marine biologists appear fascinated not only with the Siren’s song, but also the discovery of her existence. Beyond that, they really seem interested in helping the young woman. Someone who also wants to help? Helen (Rena Owen) appears to know quite a lot mermaids and their history around Bristol Cove. Both Brad and Cort have their own theories about Helen’s origins and why she happens to know so much. Listen in and then be sure to drop us a comment to let us know your theory. It’s early yet and he’s focused on finding his friend, but will Xander end up joining “Team Ryn”? How much do Ben’s parents really know about mermaids? Who is behind the capture of Ryn’s sister? So many questions, but thankfully we have an entire season of this fresh new tale (couldn’t resist!).
