6 Things we noticed during ‘Black Lightning’ 01×05 “The Book of Green Light”
Black Lightning recap: Season 1, Episode 5, “And Then the Devil Came and Brought the Plague: The Book of Green Light” aired Tuesday, February 13, 2018.
What is up my party people?! Now, you may have sort of noticed that I haven’t wrote a recap yet this season. I’m sorry. My life exploded. Anyway! Black Lightning is here and he is kicking ass and taking names getting that Green Light off the streets of Freeland! I don’t know about you guys, but so far I am loving every thing about this show! Now, just a few things during this episode struck me in a funny way. Let’s discuss!
Crash and Electric Burn?
Right from the get-go we see Black Lightning trying out some new abilities with his suit. I just think it is so cool how Gambi can make the suit channel his powers in a way that makes Black Lightning fly!
Unfortunately, it also looks like he ends up having a LOT of side effects. Now, it is super unclear what is causing all the things that are happening to him (i.e. headaches, passing out). I have a couple of theories. It could be the fact the he is just old and hasn’t used his powers in a while. Or it could something environmental that he doesn’t even realize he’s being exposed to.
Could he have maybe been exposed to Green Light somehow, and that’s what’s causing the anger outbursts as well?
Honestly, I really don’t know, I’m just guessing. Hopefully, we’ll find out soon though!
Investigative Thunder
Anissa being all investigative is pretty freaking awesome! Like I love any time when we get to see the whole Nancy Drew vibe go on. But…um…what is up with all the hostility that she gets met with?
Who is trying to cover all this stuff up? What led to a hit being put out on her grandpa? What’s going on? And what was that white powder in the storage unit?
But Thunder made a mistake
Look, as much as I love what she was doing this episode, we have to talk about her MAJOR oversight. When she went shopping, she had the help of a store consultant. Normal, right? Well that’s the problem!
This guy just watched her put together her entire superhero get-up. What the heck does she think is gonna happen when her face starts getting plastered on the news? He’s gonna come forward and be like, “OMG, I know exactly who that is! I built that outfit!” Come on, Anissa! You’re smarter than that!
Little Lightning is emerging
We saw Anissa get her powers in the very first episode. This left comic fans to wonder when Jennifer would get hers? Wait no longer fans! Lightning has struck this diva! However, she doesn’t really realize yet, that she has powers. So let’s hope that she starts noticing soon. I mean, she barely touched the girl and broke her wrist!
Also, I gotta say I absolutely adored how proud Jefferson was when he realized that Jennifer took on two girls at once. Like, the light in is eyes was absolutely beautiful and infectious!
Tobias has daddy issues
No, no, no, no! Stop, DC! Let me hate just one villain before you give them depth! I got to have like four whole episodes where I was allowed to simply hate Tobias Whale with every fiber of my being.
Then, his sister came to town. “Oh, look at that! His daddy abused him and his sister. Oh, now he makes more sense as a villain. I feel so bad for him.”
Why, why, why could they not just let me have this one? *deep breath* Oh, well. He killed the mean, old daddy, so can we go back to hating him, please!
Whose side is Gambi on?!
Ok, honestly, Gambi is a freaking enigma to me. I have absolutely no idea whose side he is on. I mean, obviously, he is helping Jefferson do the whole Black Lightning thing, and even pushed him to go back into it. What I don’t understand, is why he’s been doing things like erasing footage of Tobias before Jefferson can see it.
Also, it made it seem like Jefferson has no idea how to find Tobias, yet he just strolls up into Gambi’s shop like it’s no big deal. I don’t like secrets, and this is a freaking big one that could lead to someone dying!
