Falling Water recap, Season 2, Episode 1, “The Shadowman”, aired Saturday, January 6th, 2018
The season opener of Falling Water felt like a breath of fresh air. But things didn’t start off slowly. Ranging from a mysterious woman watching Burton, to Tess no longer being safe. This season premiere was nothing short of thrilling and promised a pretty exciting season. Let’s break it down!
Not so safe getaway
Now that Tess has her son back, she’s all about giving him the best life possible. She’s already missed enough time with him, so Tess wants to be sure she does things right now that she has the chance to be a mother to her very real son. But things are definitely not all rainbows and sunshine. Even though the relationship between Tess and her son James is solid, it’s clear that no matter where Tess goes, she can’t run away from who she is and where she belongs.
When James begins drawing some not so cute pictures, you know there is going to be trouble. We have all seen what happens when kids start drawing mysterious pictures! It is never good! But it’s a good thing Tess knows about the types of things that can happen in dreams, because when James tells her the shadowman is what he is drawing and it comes from his dreams, she knows to take it seriously. James says that even though he sees the shadowman, he isn’t seen by it. At least we hope that’s the case.
Taka definitely seems to be in a good place in the beginning of the episode. So, naturally, that needs to come to an end. We go from watching he and Burton in a satisfying act of bromance. Boxing. Their friendship is definitely something we’re here for! But we quickly head into Taka’s next big case, and it’s going to be a big one. It begins with a woman brutally murdered in her home. While questioning the husband, the man admits to Taka that he is the one who murdered his wife. But Taka doesn’t make this unbelievable discovery alone.
Alex Simms is on the scene! She’s new to this police force, but she certainly isn’t new to being a detective. Taka tries to communicate to her that things may not be what they appear. But Alex isn’t willing to listen to what Taka believes, she’s all about the evidence and piecing together the facts. Clearly Alex is going to give Taka a run for his money, and we can’t wait to watch!
While you would think Burton would be done with his woman in red after she stabbed him, it appears she isn’t going anywhere soon. Not only that, but it looks like Burton isn’t going to stop chasing after her any time soon either. Poor Burton! But if the woman is still around, does that mean that the cult is still around too? Or have we left them behind for a new big bad? We suppose only time will tell on that one.
Burton seems to have a pretty great relationship with Tess as well. He’s obviously willing to go to great lengths to protect her and likes to check in with her to be sure she is safe. But she doesn’t tell him that she has been found and her safe place isn’t so safe anymore. Hopefully it won’t take Tess long to realize that she can’t fight the shadowman on her own and she is stronger and safer with Burton and Taka. That, and we really can’t wait to see the three of them teaming up again!
We’re definitely glad to see Taka, Burton, and Tess accepting what happened to them in the first season. But we’ll definitely be even happier when the three of them are all back together. Things with Taka’s mother are going to be interesting this season as well. We aren’t fooled by her current catatonic like state. That woman is pure evil and we know it! At least Taka has Tess’ sister Sabine to lean on. She seems to genuinely care about him, and that’s something Taka very clearly needs.
