Supergirl recap: Season 3, Episode 9, “Reign” Aired December 4, 2017.

Welcome back, Superfans. This is the big one. Reign is finally revealed as this season’s villain. Even though we all knew it was coming, I could not be more devastated about it.

The writers did a great job building up Sam’s character. They spent the first 9 episodes getting the audience to like her. We knew we shouldn’t, but we did.

The worst Christmas party ever

The CW

Kara is still a big ball of depression over Mon-El and his wife. Dear writers, this story is getting old, please stop it. I am at my exception point with Kara. She needs to get over it. He has been gone for seven years and is married. Move on!

Anyways, Kara hosts a Christmas party. Thankfully Mon-El does not come to it. Sam and Ruby arrive late. Sam is in disarray and is very pale. Throughout this episode she is forgetful and short with Ruby.

Kara, Alex, and J’onn get called into the DEO because and alien symbol keeps popping up everywhere.

The Signs

Signs that we know as Reign’s have been popping up everywhere. Morgan Edge believes it is Supergirl messing with people. I don’t even know why he is in this episode to be honest.

This is what Kara finds out.

  • Before the time of Raou there was a conqueror called the World Killer.
  • She annihilated all worlds and forced them to bow to her.
  • There are 3 signs to her pending reign.

The first sign are these symbols. The audience finds out that Sam is performing these acts unbeknownst to herself. She has chunks of memory missing.

Supergirl sends a message.

Crime and deaths begin to increase due to Reign’s destruction. Kara decides enough is enough. She will deliver a message. Supergirl uses her heat vision to carve her symbol into the top of Cat Co.

Reign responds by telling her where to meet. Alex forewarns Kara before she leaves.

“Kara, for some reason this thing scares the hell out of me. Forget being human for once, be Kryptonian. Beat her.”

Well said. Kara will need to be all Kryptonian if she is to face Reign. Will that be enough to stop her?

The fall of Supergirl

Reign and Supergirl meet. Keep in mind Sam has no idea what is going on when Reign is in control. Kara does not know Sam is Reign. Knowing these details makes it even more heartbreaking when the two fight.

  • At first they seem easily matched.
  • Kara begins to win as they fly through an office building.
  • Reign, however, for most of the fight kicks Kara’s butt.

They go head-to-toe for a good ten minutes. Shockingly Reign get the better of Kara. Kara looks terrible. She is beaten and bloody. Reign drops her off of a building.

I was half expecting someone to catch her but none of the other heroes showed up.

Is Supergirl okay?

Kara lands on the ground barely breathing. She is rushed to the DEO. The episode ends on a cliffhanger. We genuinely have no idea if she is alright.

What did you think of the episode? Was it heartbreaking watching Sam and Supergirl go at it? Are you scared for Kara?

Supergirl airs Mondays at 8/7c on The CW. Check out Pure Fandom’s new podcast, SuperTalk, and tune in each week for my recaps.

I am an actor and a writer. I spend my free time reading, watching television, and hanging out with friends. My love of all things supernatural came from my first time watching ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ and has expanded into a wide range of shows. I love all things ‘Arrow’, ‘The Flash’, ‘The Vampire Diaries’, and ‘The Originals’, to name a few. Traveling, cons, and beaches are three of my favorite things!
