‘Supergirl’ recap: 3×04 “The Faithful”

Supergirl recap: Season 3, Episode 4, “The Faithful” Aired October 30, 2017.

Welcome back, Superfans! How awesome was last night’s episode? It was probably my favorite of the season, for many reasons. All of which I will get into. First, however I want to ask a question. What is in that pod?!

Thomas Corville

Do you remember in the pilot episode when Kara saved Alex from insta-death, via plane? Of course you do. Ever wondered how the other passengers felt? We find out.

Thomas Corville’s wife left him for another man. He began drinking and lost his job because of it. Tom is a passenger on the plane. Mr. Corville is talking a man’s ear off about his woes. Next thing he knows the plane is going down. Strikes of fear run through his eyes.

All of the sudden the plane stops crashing and they land smoothly in the water. Tom looks out the window and sees Kara (At the time.) landing the plane. At that moment his eyes well up with tears. He has seen the light, so to speak.

The Cult of Rao

We find out later on Tom started a cult that worships Supergirl. How do we find out? A creepy lady walks up to Sam at her daughter’s soccer game. Creepy lady hands Sam a pamphlet and tells her she and her daughter are special. Kara picks up the pamphlet from Sam’s desk.

The Cult of Rao is made up of people Supergirl saved in the past. They worship her as a God. Kara, Winn, and James go to investigate and are disgusted. Kara states.

“You are twisting Rao’s teachings. This is not what he is about.”

There are so many parallels I could drawl right now, but I won’t. I will leave that to you guys.

One believer even goes as far as lighting a building on fire and standing on top of it. He wanted Supergirl to save him. This believer had no concern for anyone in the building only that he could be saved. It’s scary how realistic this episode was.

Girl’s Night Out

Before Kara went to attend to the burning building she was at a girl’s night. Lena, Sam, Alex, Maggie, and Kara were swapping stories and drinking wines. Many revelations were had after the event.

  • Alex realized she really wants a kid. She has to talk to Maggie. (I am sure we get that conversation next week.)
  • Lena helps Sam realize that she is a rockstar and her daughter should be proud of her.
  • Kara finally opens up about Mon-El.

While these may not be the most important events of the episode, these secrets foreshadow future events.

A Man and His Faith

The ladies aren’t the only ones with secrets. It turns out Thomas found a piece of crystal with Kryptonian data in it. In the crystal were the teachings of Rao. Where did he get the crystal? Mr. Corville found the crystal in a Kryptonian pod. No we never find out where he got the pod from.

Tom devizes a plan with his followers to put Kara on the path. He wants to use the pod to destroy an arena full of people. Corville believes Kara will save the people before the bomb goes off.

It turns out the pod has Kryptonite in it. Kara weakens. Alex swoops in and saves the day. She removes the Kryptonite and pushes the pod into a hole, Kara makes with her heat vision. The hole is filled with fire.

You Shall Reign

As the episode comes to a close, we get one last scene. Sam is in her bathroom getting ready for bed. She closes her mirror and tattoos begin to cover her body. A woman/alien appears behind her and utters,

“In fire you rise and you shall reign.”

Cut to, a ship with a pod on it. A person’s hand hits the glass. Fade out.

What did you think? Are you excited for next week’s episode? Sound off in the comments!
