The Mayor recap: Season 1, Episode 2, “The Filibuster,” Aired Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2017

Mayor Courtney Rose is back in the game and hitting the issues hard! Let’s take a look at how a non-politician decides to hit politics head on to get his goals accomplished.

The Pre-Party

Filibuster
ABC

Valentina desperately tries to get Courtney to prepare for an appearance at their old high school. He, of course, doesn’t listen. This leads to him making a promise to the school to buy all new instruments and equipment for the music program. It’s not until after this that he finds out the city council is in budget proceedings to actually cut the music program.

The Party

Filibuster
ABC

Once Courtney processes that bombshell, he immediately starts trying to learn what he can do to save the music program. He half-heartedly sits through a presentation on the budget allocations and then tries to veto the finalization of the budget. However, he forgot that with a majority vote, the veto can still be overridden. Former opponent, Councilman Ed Gunt, has no problem reining him of this.

The After-Party

Filibuster
ABC

After that failed attempt, Val tells Courtney about the filibuster policy. While she looks into the budget proposal to find corners to cut, Courtney reads to the council out of the dictionary. Unfortunately, there are no other cuts to be made. However, after Val brings the kids from the school into the council room, they livestream the kids. This prompts several council members to get calls from their constituents to make sure the music program does not get cut!

T.K.’s Party

Filibuster
ABC

While all of this is going on, T.K. goes on a journey of self discovery of how he fits into Courtney’s new life as mayor. His title is Director of Constituent Services, and he really has no idea of what this means. Courtney’s mom, Dina, takes him on a ride around town to show him some problems around the town. It takes all day for him to realize that these are problems that he can fix! The point finally gets across and he sets to fix some of the problems and serve the constituents.

It seems like everyone is finally settling into their new roles. Let’s see how they continue to grow this season!

The Mayor airs Tuesdays on ABC at 9:30/8:30c
