‘This Is Us’ spoiler-free review: 2×02 “A Manny-Splendored Thing”

Spoiler-free review of NBC’s This Is Us episode 2×02 “A Manny-Splendored Thing,” airing October 3, 2017.

After this week’s stunning season premiere of the hit series This Is Us, the second episode dives further into the Pearson family, and it is a doozy!

We get to see even more of the Pearson family dynamics this episode, especially a mother/daughter scene that left me wondering what would happen next. As always with this show, it is the little moments you see throughout the episode that brings things together and it is important to pay attention to what you see.

Some things to watch out for:

Randall and Beth: This beautiful couple gave all the laughs, including one scene that gives a tiny glimpse into their personal life. These two are truly #RelationshipGoals.

Kevin and Sophie: If you weren’t sure about Sophie before, you may love her in this episode. I, for sure, was rooting her the entire time.

Kate: I can’t say too much without giving things away. But Kate is truly the star of the episode, even if the title makes it sound like Kevin is the focus. He might be, but his sister does the shining.

A bonding moment: We get some background on two characters’ relationship with one another in an amusing and adorable scene. Plus, it also gives us a peek at another relationship dynamic on the show.

Jack’s journey: The past intertwines in varying ways for Jack in this episode, and we get a glimpse into his character and who he is. It really is a journey for Jack, and while we have an idea (or do we?) of how it ends, the story is compelling and captivating.

This Is Us 2×02 score card

Parent/child interaction: 9/10
Randall/Beth: 10/10
Kevin/Sophie: 10/10
Toby/Kate: 7/10
Big 3: 6/10
