The Ultimate ‘Supernatural’ Playlist: Top 20 songs for hunters

With two more months to go for the hiatus, I’m sure we all need something to fill the Supernatural void! Here’s a list of the top 20 songs on our Supernatural playlist that remind us all of the show in one way or another. Check it out!

1. Carry On My Wayward Son by Kansas

Come on, you knew this song would be here! If you are a member of the Supernatural fandom then this song can give you a vast array of emotions. It signifies the beginning of a season finale; which means that the season’s “Big Bad” is finally going to be dealt with, and the cliffhanger at the end will make you stress out all summer. Then, there’s the beautiful version from “Fanfiction” where we all shed a tear–if not, you’re not human.

2. Heat of the Moment by Asia

If I really need to explain this one, then you have not seen one of the funniest episodes in the history of Supernatural and I feel sorry for your life. On a more serious note, if you truly ship Sabriel, then this song could totally be turned into a fun little fanfic where the two finally give into the “heat of the moment.”

3. Eye of the Tiger by Survivor

In the season 4 episode, “Yellow Fever,” there is this tiny, little scene where Sam walks up on Dean doing the air drums to this song. However, if you watch the deleted scenes where they just let Jensen Ackles have fun with it, your day will improve 1000 fold.

4. Simple Man by Lynyrd Skynyrd (or Jensen Ackles)

Not only does this song perfectly describe Dean’s life, but there are also some beautiful covers of Jensen Ackles singing it himself. Personally, I prefer him singing it, but that could totally be because I’m in love with him (so that’s the video I decided to link).

5. Changes by David Bowie

Who could forget the magical scene where the boys are trying to “cure” Crowley of demonism, and he starts singing! Also, if you pay attention to the lyrics it makes some valid points concerning our time travel episodes.

6. Wanted Dead or Alive by Bon Jovi

Remember this bittersweet scene where we see our boys acting like children just before they start to sing this song together? That’s just before Dean looks off into the distance and breaks our hearts!

7. Paradise City by Guns and Roses

This song perfectly sums up the Dean from earlier seasons: care free, living in the moment, chicks, booze, and burgers.

8. Somebody to Love by Queen

This song sadly reminds me of Sam. Every time the poor kid decides to start having feelings for someone, they die. First there was Jess (who I’m sure he’s still not over), then there’s Madison (a werewolf), and Eileen (who I shipped him with). All dead! Sammy needs love.

9. Don’t You Forget About Me by Simple Minds

My Tiny Obsessions

This one is just a personal laugh. Sadly, as “Fanfiction” pointed out, everyone always forgets that Adam is still stuck in the pit with Lucifer and Michael. So as an ironic entry on the list, its symbolic of Adam begging that his brothers don’t forget about him.

10. House of the Rising Sun by the Animals

Benny is a favorite of mine. He is the scruffy, awesome best friend that should have stuck around. His low voice, and Cajun status, make this song (about a rough place in New Orleans) the ideal song for my fav vampire – in Supernatural that is.

11. Don’t Stop Believin’ by Journey

Our favorite little angel of Thursday, Castiel, is always believing in something. The object of his belief may change, but he always has faith in something.

12. Girls, Girls, Girls by Motley Crue

I feel like since we are finally getting our Wayward Sisters spinoff that we’ve been begging for, we need to come up with a new theme song. All of the main cast are going to be girls, so why even beat around the bush?

13. Nothing but a Good Time by Poison

This song is literally the definition of Gabriel, aka Trickster. Anytime things become even slightly less than fun he disappears to greener pastures.

14. I Hate Myself for Loving You by Joan Jett

This song is a perfect description of Crowley’s feelings for Dean. He is obviously drawn to him somehow (look how much fun he had when Dean was a demon.) But why should he feel any sort of kinship with the literal bane of his existence? The heart wants what it wants!

15. Unwell by Matchbox 20

I have always loved this song by Matchbox 20. When you take into account the instability of Lucifer in Season 7, and how he literally drove Sam insane, this song is just what the doctor (shrink) ordered.

16. Pour Some Sugar on Me by Def Leppard

Meg, particularly in her second incarnation, is by far one of my favorite demons. She’s just a barrel full of love. This song depicts her awesome, care-free personality.

17. Uma Thurman by Fall Out Boy

Now, it might be just because the song has the quirky little touch with the Munster’s theme song in the background, but this song is totally the best song for Charlie. I want this to be my personal theme song too, but this might just be because I relate to all of Felicia’s characters on a personal level.

18. Moves Like Jagger by Maroon 5

Perhaps this one is geared more towards the actor who plays Balthazar, than Balty himself. Sebastian Roche is a fun-loving, care-free dancing machine. If you didn’t already know this than I command you to go to YouTube, and watch some panels now, because it will definitely make you smile.

19. Touch-A, Touch-A, Touch Me from Rocky Horror Picture Show

Ok, this is another song for Gabriel. I just could see him making one of his cheesy pornos to this song!

20. I Can’t Fight This Feeling by REO Speedwagon

I have a confession to make…I ship Destiel. There I said it! And I just picture that the only way we are going to get this to be canon on the show is to have some cooky spell make them go ga-ga for each other and have this song in the background before they finally kiss. That is all.
