‘Supergirl’ recap: 2×19 “Alex”

Supergirl recap: Season 2, Episode 19, “Alex” Aired May 1, 2017.

On tonight’s episode we got one thing I have been waiting to see all season, a Kara and Maggie team-up!

Kara and Maggie have only had a handful of scenes together. They are always in a group when they are on screen. Not tonight- tonight we got to see the Kara/Maggie dynamic in its truest form.

They both fought to save the woman they love, Alex Danvers. So enough of my ranting, let’s dive in!

Supergirl vs. Detective Sawyer

We begin the episode with a Supergirl/Maggie standoff. Yes, that is right you heard me! Maggie spent the last 14 hours negotiating in a hostage situation. She is just about to talk the man down, when Supergirl bursts through the building and saves everyone.

I have always thought about that. What do the cops of National City think about Supergirl basically doing their job? Well, we found out. Here is what Maggie had to say,

“We need Supergirl, when an alien attacks, or a meta-human takes over. We don’t need her for good ole-fashioned police work.”

I have to agree with Maggie on that. Every once in a while she should let the police do their jobs!

The Kidnapping

Tumblr

After Kara and Maggie’s blowout, Alex goes to chase Kara down. We find out the next morning that our wonderful Alex has been kidnapped! Oh, hell no!

  • An old middle school friend of Kara’s and Alex’s has kidnapped her.
  • He wants Supergirl to free his Dad from prison, or else he will kill Alex.
  • He knows Kara is Supergirl.

Now Maggie, Kara and the DEO must race to save Alex.

Who loves her more?

Det. Sawyer and Kara join forces to look for Alex. They both have two different styles of going about it. Supergirl uses brute force. Maggie thinks things through. J’onn watches them buttheads. He tries to play peacekeeper but…

He doesn’t do a good job.

The ultimate issue is they both care for Alex. They both want her back. They just can’t agree on the best way.

Supergirl makes a huge mistake.

The CW

Supergirl being the stubborn person that she is, decides her way is best. She goes after Alex.

Alex ends up not being at that location. Instead, a timer begins and water starts to fill Alex’s cage.

You messed up, Kara.

Supergirl’s mistake pushes Maggie too far. She goes off on Kara. I have to side with Maggie on this. Maggie is a trained Detective and Kara should have listened to her.

The Same Page

Maggie and Kara finally realize they both love Alex. (More on that reveal in my #Sanvers Part 2 article!) The only thing that matters is her safety.

Maggie steals the man’s Father from prison. Supergirl reasons with him.

“The one good thing you did in your life was be a Father. Do not let your Son go down this path.”

He tells them where his Son would keep Alex. They save her!

 #Sanvers

Yes I am purposely not talking about #Sanvers. No I did not forget about them. A huge moment happened between Alex and Maggie this episode. To give it, its due time, I will be doing a #Sanvers part 2, this week.

Don’t worry my Superfans! I would never leave you hanging like that!

What did you think of tonight’s episode? Did you love the Kara/Maggie dynamic? Are you excited for next week? Stay tuned!

Supergirl airs Mondays at 8/7c on The CW. Check out Pure Fandom’s new podcast, SuperTalk, and tune in each week for my recaps.
