‘The Magicians’ recap: Brad and Cort Talk 2×05, “Cheat Day”

The Magicians recap: Season 2, Episode 5, “Cheat Day”, Aired Feb. 22, 2017

Quentin takes a vacation from his worries and grief over the loss of Alice. His sabbatical from magic doesn’t last very long as he spots a familiar face. He bonds with former Brakebills alum, Emily Greenstreet and things take a few turn as they indulge in sex, drugs, and magical times. Meanwhile, Julia’s personal nightmare gets even more twisted. She’s pregnant. She’s not certain if it was a result of her rape or her brief affair with Richard. Either way, she insists on booking the first appointment possible.

Julia’s not the only one with news. Fen annouces a royal conception and Eliot is shook to be sure. Of course not long after he’s attacked in an assassination attempt by a Foo Fighter. No, not the bad. Apparently, some Florians aren’t that accepting of having children of Earth as their rulers. Eliot spends the episode trying to figure out how to deal with the assassin. Margo is Team “Off With His Head” and Eliot is considering a more Ned Start approach to things. Penny’s still having issues with his hands and looks to an old mentor for help.

Listen in as Brad and Cort breakdown 2×05, “Cheat Day”.  Does Reynard somehow know that Julia is pregnant or does the unborn have massive powers of self-preservation. What did you think of that final moment? Was Quentin hallucinating or was that really Alice’s shade? What do you think she was trying to say to Quentin? Be sure to hit the comments to let us know what you thought of the episode.
