5 things we can expect from ‘Avengers: Infinity War’

It’s happening, Marvel fans!

Avengers: Infinity War has officially started production! The movie is set to be released on May 4, 2018 (a.k.a., not soon enough). So while we’re waiting, let’s run down some of the things we can expect to see onscreen in the next huge installment of the Avengers franchise.

Before we get started, check out the video that Marvel released to announce the beginning of the movie’s production.

1. Thanos is the bad guy, and he’s more of a threat than anything the Avengers have ever seen

As Kevin Feige (the movie’s producer) says in the promo video, Thanos is the biggest villain that anyone in the Marvel Universe has faced so far. With the infinity gauntlet, Thanos will wield a massive amount of power. After all, we’ve all seen what happens when just one infinity stone is used. What happens when there’s four or five? It will take a wide variety of heroes to defeat him… which brings us to our next point.

2. Avengers + Guardians of the Galaxy = awesome

Iron Man, Captain America, Spider-Man, Star-Lord and Groot will share the same screen in 2018. Let that sink in. It’s crazy that we get to see a team-up like this, much less see the dynamic between all of these vastly different characters. I’m excited to see Rocket trade one-liners with Spidey and see Drax and Hulk kick butt side-by-side. And who knows how Gamora and Black Widow will get along?

3. Doctor Strange is back–and will likely play a large role

Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange returns to Infinity War after appearing in the upcoming Thor film. Because he possesses the green infinity gem, Doctor Strange will be key in defeating Thanos. However, because this is the last infinity stone that Thanos will not have, it’s highly likely that somehow, before the start of Infinity War, Thanos could have the green stone. In that case, Doctor Strange will be even more instrumental in getting it back.

4. There’s going to be some “let’s-make-up” moments

There’s a reason that Captain America: Civil War was released before Infinity War. The heroes needed something to break them apart in order to make their reunion in Infinity War that much more epic. We’ll probably see Tony and Steve reconciling or at least trying to move past their differences. It’ll be interesting to see where the Guardians play into this or if they’ll even be a part of the story at this stage. It’s hard to say right now–although I do like the idea of Star-Lord trying to get Tony and Steve to talk it out.

5. It’s going to be the biggest Marvel film to date

A superhero movie of this scale has never been attempted before. Civil War boasted the largest roster of superheroes to date, and Infinity War is only upping the ante. If they’re aren’t any secret cameos–and if I counted right–22 heroes appear in the film (this includes Loki and excludes The Collector and Thanos). However, I wouldn’t put it above Marvel to throw some surprises at us, and I’m honestly excited to see if that will happen. In any case, this movie features so many fan-favorites that it’ll be hard to be dissatisfied with the cast.
