The Magicians recap: Season 2, Episode 2, “Hotel Spa Potions”, Aired Feb. 1, 2017
It is written and let it be…that he who is known as “The Beast”/Martin (Charles Mesure) shall henceforth sing his lines throughout the remainder of this season. It clearly annoys the hell out of Julia, and it’s oddly endearing. Yes, I know. He’s a very bad man. Murderer and stealer of magic. He’s also placed a curse on any kings and queens of Fillory who take the thrown. That can’t be good. Eliot already has enough problems in his new kingdom. Good thing he grew up on a farm.
Shocker!!! Right? That unexpected bit of backstory went a long one to solve at least one Fillory crisis. Quentin and the others return to Brakebills so that they can get down to figuring out the problem with the Beast. Enter something amazing called “battle magic” and the most badass, sex-crazed pixie ever to grace your tv screen. Also, looks like Eliot isn’t the only one with an interesting past. Listen in as Brad and Cort breakdown the episode. They talk Penny’s interesting chemistry with Professor Sunderland, and Charles Mesure’s amazing voice. (Note: At one point, Cort mentions that Martin was a pedophile when actually he like Julia was raped). We also get a chance to see one of our favorite hedge witches return. She’s freaked out about the Renard situation. What do you think of Julia and Quentin’s current impasse? Ultimately they both want the same things, but they appear to be at cross-purposes yet again. Listen in and then hit the comments to let us know what you thought of the episode.
