Supergirl Season 2, Episode 9, “Supergirl Lives”, aired January 23, 2017
Supergirl is BACCK, and tick-tocking away. This mid-season premiere leaves a lot to be desired, and in this episode of SuperTalk Kim and Spyros discuss why they’re so critical of the show and some of the genre problems that plague Supergirl and all the Super shows. In this episode we’ve got the Dominators showing up again, alien slavery and Mon-El being re-set to party boy mode yet again.
All in all we were pretty disappointed with this episode. It seems that the writing room really missed all the inconsistencies created in forcing the episode to serve the story beats they needed to hit. That combined with the continued use of tropes makes for a weak episode in what Spyros and Kim have regarded as a weak debut season of Supergirl for the CW.
With the tick-tock cycle this season has been following we expect next week’s episode to be stronger. The saving grace this week was Malex and the continued development of their relationship, though even that had its flaws in this episode.
