Get excited, Star Wars fans! It’s time to get your feels on with these newly-released teasers of Star Wars scores from the latest film in the franchise, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, composed by Michael Giacchino. Giacchino is filling the shoes of the great John Williams, who of course is the mastermind behind the scores we all know and love in the Star Wars film franchise. As uber-fans, we wondered whether the film’s music-magic would live up to its predecessors (hey, even the prequels had some solid scores), but based on what we’ve heard in these teasers, we can confidently say fans will be pleased.
Per EW’s Anthony Breznican, who exclusively released the scores, what you’ll hear in the video are “samples from two songs: ‘Her Path Is Clear,’ which is most likely a Jyn Erso theme, and ‘Approach to Eadu,’ which references the storm-drenched planet the Rebel spies visit.” Take a listen above.
In honor of our Star Wars week leading up to the release of Rogue One, we’ve compiled some of the best scores from the last seven films. Take a listen, and share you favorite in the comments below!
Our All-Time Favorite Star Wars Scores (ranked in no particular order)
Episode I: The Phantom Menace, “Duel of the Fates”
Episode II: Attack of the Clones
We’re skipping this one. There’s a score actually titled, “The Meadow Picnic”. John Williams did what he could with that script as inspiration.
Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, “The Great Final Duel”
Episode IV: A New Hope, “Ben Kenobi’s Death/The Fighter Attack”
Episode V: Empire Strikes Back, “The Rebel Fleet/End Title”
This song to us is literally the force; it’s that legit. #Feels
Episode VI: Return of the Jedi, “The Emperor Arrives/The Death of Yoda/Obi-Wan’s Revelation”
Episode VII: The Force Awakens, “The Ways of The Force”
